Your generous donation towards book sets at first grade reading level has provided ample opportunity for my students to engage in print media where their developing minds do the thinking and gathering information at the appropriate development level. \r\n\r\nAs a result, students are learning to read, and more importantly growing to love to read, and therefore learn. Their appetite for reading is evident as they read, reread, and return to similar books again and again. And the impact is evident in their writing. \r\n\r\nFor example, they enjoy the piggy and elephant books, and having the whole set in the classroom gives them opportunity after opportunity to build their reading aptitude and teach them foundations skills of writing like punctuation, speech bubbles, and expressive words. \r\n\r\nInstead of crying at the thought of reading strange symbols in the alphabet, they yearn to open a book to read with joy and delight.
