Your contribution has made a meaningful difference in the lives of our students who struggle with literacy and phonological awareness. While many people love to read, teaching students with reading disabilities requires a specialized, structured approach. The Orton-Gillingham materials you provided introduce our students to foundational skills including phonemic awareness, phonics patterns, syllable division, and morphology. With our new materials, we have been able to start doing explicit skill based lesson that target my students' specific needs. Reading instruction in our classroom is highly structured and individualized. Students work in small groups or one-on-one with teachers using the Orton-Gillingham materials, which engages visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning. We use manipulatives and flashcards to teach letter sounds and patterns, then move to decodable texts that allow students to practice these skills immediately. Rather than guessing at words or relying on pictures, our students are learning to actually read—sounding out words letter by letter with purpose and understanding. We have several students who are especially thriving with these new materials. One student who previously felt discouraged about reading now eagerly participates in lessons and has begun reading simple sentences independently. Another student, who struggles significantly with phonological processing, is using the multisensory approach to finally \"see\" how sounds connect to letters. These students are celebrating their progress and developing a genuine love of reading—something that seemed impossible just weeks ago.","fullyFundedDate":1767197642151,"projectUrl":"project/empower-every-reader-transform-learning/9830297/","projectTitle":"Empower Every Reader: Transform Learning for Students with Dyslexia!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hedrick","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6403985_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1573669922671","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6403985"},{"teacherId":6403985,"projectId":8986577,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support for our Orton-Gillingham reading materials, our students with dyslexia are experiencing significant growth in their literacy skills. These materials also incorporate multi-sensory approaches, engaging students through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic activities, making reading an interactive and enjoyable experience.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading has transformed into a dynamic and collaborative process. Students participate in daily structured sessions where they engage in phonics drills, read aloud in small groups, and apply new skills through hands-on activities. This environment fosters confidence and a love for reading. We have noticed remarkable enthusiasm from students, who once struggled with phonics but now eagerly tackles new books and shares her insights with her peers.
