As a Speech Language Pathologist in a public school, I work with students with varying communication profiles. Many of my students are non-speaking, minimally speaking, or emergent communicators. I was able to download TD Snap, which is a research-based AAC (Alternative & Augmentative Communication) application, to the iPad you helped fund! Having this device has helped me support all of my students and train staff on how to use AAC.\r\n\r\nThis device has helped my students that already have an AAC device of their own by allowing me to model on a separate device. Being able to model on a separate device has helped me respect their autonomy and belongings. It also gives their speaking peers the opportunity to explore and model on the device.\r\n\r\nThis device has also helped me support my students who do not yet have an AAC device of their own. I no longer have to wait for the district to provide a device for trialing but rather am able to provide access to a device on the student's first day of preschool. This has allowed me to collect data sooner, which helps the students get devices of their own in a shorter amount of time.\r\n\r\nLastly, this device has also allowed me to train staff, including special education teachers and paraprofessionals, on how to use AAC devices. Training staff on how to use AAC will lead to more consistent modeling of AAC throughout the students' days at school.\r\n\r\nThank you again for donating to my project and helping ensure that all of my students have a voice in the classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1733278876240,"projectUrl":"project/communication-for-all-aac-in-the-classr/8856221/","projectTitle":"Communication for All: AAC in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lisa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7461689_orig.jpg?crop=388,388,x91,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730484894957","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7461689"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_127529","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":13,"percentAsian":40,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":127529,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Old Redmond Schoolhouse on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Old Redmond Schoolhouse","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/lake-washington-school-district-414/old-redmond-schoolhouse/127529"}
