It has shifted the way teachers across ten classrooms think about mathematics and about their students. Through our study of Building Thinking Classrooms and ongoing coaching cycles, we are using these resources to design spaces where students do the heavy lifting of thinking, reasoning, and collaborating. Teachers are reworking tasks to create multiple entry points, using vertical surfaces to make thinking visible, and listening more deeply to student ideas. The result is a meaningful change in practice. Students who once hesitated to participate are now leaning in, taking risks, and seeing themselves as capable mathematicians.\r\nOne moment that stays with me happened during a problem-solving task where a student who typically avoided sharing quietly stood up, grabbed a marker, and began explaining their thinking to peers. What followed was a rich conversation, with classmates building on and questioning ideas with genuine curiosity. The student beamed, not because they had the \"right answer,\" but because their thinking mattered. That moment captured the heart of this work. Classrooms are becoming communities where ideas are valued, mistakes are invitations, and every student has a place in the mathematics.\r\nBecause of your support, this impact will continue to ripple outward. Teachers are not only refining their current practice, but also looking ahead with excitement and purpose. We are eager to deepen our work in fostering student discourse and strengthening mathematical identity, especially as we move into more complex topics like fractions and proportional reasoning. Thank you for opening doors that will benefit students for years to come. Your contribution is helping to build classrooms where thinking thrives.","fullyFundedDate":1768500644455,"projectUrl":"project/growing-engaged-mathematicians/9858361/","projectTitle":"Growing Engaged Mathematicians","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Martin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9378597_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1700782474471","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9378597"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35872","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":387,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":6,"percentAsian":48,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":87.2,"schoolId":35872,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Horace Mann Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Horace Mann Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/lake-washington-school-district-414/horace-mann-elementary-school/35872"}
