The moment the students first saw the dice, their eyes lit up with excitement. They immediately wanted to roll them and start moving. These bright, oversized dice have quickly become one of the most popular pieces of equipment in our gym. Students love that they get to combine movement and learning, and the dice have made math feel like a game rather than a worksheet.\r\n\r\nWe have already been using the dice in several movement-based activities that combine physical fitness with math skills. In one of our favorite games, students roll the dice in small groups and then complete exercises based on the numbers they roll—such as 8 jumping jacks, 6 squats, or 10 mountain climbers. In another activity, students roll two dice and work together to add, subtract, or multiply the numbers before completing a movement challenge. It has been wonderful to watch students collaborate, encourage one another, and practice their number sense while staying active.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we are excited to expand these activities even more. Students will begin designing their own \"Roll & Move\" games, where they create movement challenges connected to the numbers on the dice. This will allow them to practice creativity, teamwork, and problem solving while continuing to build both math and fitness skills. Your generosity has helped create a gym environment where learning, movement, and laughter happen all at once. The snacks—pretzels, Cheez-Its, PopCorners, and Annie's Bunnies—have quickly become an important and meaningful part of our daily routine. My students now have the opportunity to have a snack twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. This has made a huge difference in their ability to focus, regulate their energy, and stay engaged throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nOne particularly meaningful classroom moment happened during our math block. Fifth grade math requires a lot of focus and perseverance, especially as we work through challenging concepts like multiplication and division. Before we started our lesson one day, students grabbed a quick snack and settled into their seats. I noticed that students who sometimes struggle to stay regulated were calmer and more ready to learn. Instead of worrying about being hungry, they were able to concentrate on solving problems and participating in discussions. It was such a simple moment, but it clearly showed how something as small as a snack can positively impact learning and engagement.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes of snacks first arrived, the excitement in the classroom was incredible. Students' eyes lit up as we unpacked everything together. Many of them immediately recognized their favorite snacks, and there were lots of smiles and thank-yous being shared around the room. For some students, having reliable snacks available during the day is a big deal. Fifth graders are growing quickly and often get hungry between meals, especially during a long school day. Knowing that they have something available helps them feel comfortable and cared for in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThese snacks have also been especially helpful for students with sensory needs. Some of my students benefit from having something crunchy or textured to help them regulate and stay focused during independent work times. Snacks like pretzels, Cheez-Its, and Annie's Bunnies provide that sensory input in a way that helps students remain engaged with their learning. Having access to a variety of snack options means students can choose what works best for them, which supports both their physical needs and their ability to concentrate.\r\n\r\nAnother unexpected benefit has been the way snacks help build community in our classroom. Snack time has become a moment where students pause, reset, and connect with one another. It creates a calm transition during the day that helps students return to learning feeling refreshed and ready. Small routines like this help create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and ready to take academic risks.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next steps for our classroom involve continuing to build strong learning habits and independence. As we move further into the year, students are working on more complex math skills, including deeper work with multiplication and division. These foundational skills are critical for future math success, and they require persistence and focus. Having consistent access to snacks helps students maintain the energy and concentration they need to tackle these challenging concepts.\r\n\r\nWe are also continuing to work on collaborative learning and hands-on problem solving. Students are participating in small group math tasks where they explain their thinking, justify their strategies, and learn from one another. These moments of discussion and teamwork are where some of the best learning happens. The supportive classroom environment—helped by routines like snack time—allows students to feel comfortable sharing ideas and trying new strategies.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly made a difference in our classroom. Something as simple as providing snacks has helped support students' focus, regulation, and sense of belonging. My students and I are so thankful for the care and kindness that donors have shown. Because of your support, my students are better able to focus on what matters most: learning, growing, and building the confidence they need to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1765404034844,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-for-pre-teens/9909291/","projectTitle":"Snacks for Pre-Teens","teacherDisplayName":"Mx. Seeing their smiles as they tried them out made it clear how much this project meant to them.\r\n\r\nWe are actively using the hands-on multiplication and division regrouping sets during our current math unit, and the impact has been incredible. Students are working hard to model their thinking, physically move pieces to understand regrouping, and make sense of division in a concrete way. The multiplication flash cards have become part of our daily routine, building confidence and fluency, while the writing folders are helping students stay organized and take pride in their work.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue strengthening multiplication and division skills through small groups, games, and problem-solving tasks using these resources. The powerful sound ensures all students—no matter where they are in the gym or outdoors—can hear directions, cues, and music. This has improved focus, transitions, and overall participation, allowing students to spend more time moving and learning.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is the microphones. They love having opportunities to lead warm-ups, call out encouragement, or help demonstrate activities. Students who are usually quiet or hesitant have especially warmed to this technology; using the microphone has boosted their confidence, given them a voice, and helped them feel like leaders in our PE community.\r\n\r\nYour support didn't just provide equipment—it amplified student voice, confidence, engagement, and joy. The new graphic novels have opened the door for deeper conversations around character traits, theme, and plot development—skills that are often challenging to teach with traditional texts. Students are now able to analyze how authors use visuals and dialogue together to build meaning, and they're practicing essential comprehension strategies like making inferences and comparing text structures. The sensory materials you helped provide have also played a huge role in helping students stay regulated and focused, giving them the tools they need to engage fully while reading.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now looks like students spread out in their favorite learning spots—some bouncing lightly on a sensory stool, others using fidgets to help maintain attention—while they dive into books that truly capture their interest. With the new materials, students can stay in their learning zone longer and participate more actively in reading discussions. I've noticed that students who previously struggled with stamina are now able to read for extended periods because they have the sensory supports they need.\r\n\r\nA few students in particular have been deeply impacted by the graphic novels. One reluctant reader now asks to read every day and proudly shares new vocabulary he discovers in his book. Another student who often felt overwhelmed by long text blocks has gained confidence by reading stories with supportive visuals, allowing her to better understand characters' emotions and motivations. These books have given many students a way into reading that finally feels accessible and enjoyable.
