I was out of work for a few months due to a family emergency.\r\n\r\nWe are using the new resources daily during small-group and individual speech-language sessions. One of my favorite moments was during a language group where students used the sensory sand along with story manipulatives to practice describing and sequencing. Students who typically hesitate to participate were eager to take turns, explain their thinking, and even help peers. The hands-on nature of the resources made abstract language concepts much more concrete and accessible.\r\n\r\nWhen the kids first saw the new material, they were so excited! Several students cal in and sat on the new chairs and said things like, \"Are these for us?\" and \"Can we use them today?\" The materials instantly captured their attention and motivation. Students were more engaged, more talkative, and visibly proud to use tools that felt special and just for them. It created an atmosphere of curiosity and confidence right from the start.\r\n\r\nAs the year progresses, students will continue building their expressive and receptive language skills by using these resources for more advanced tasks such as story retelling, problem-solving, and making inferences. We will also incorporate them into collaborative activities that promote turn-taking, social communication, and self-advocacy. We incubated 36 eggs and had 24 successful hatches! And boy were the chicks cute!! One surprising benefit of the project was the stress relief they provided for the teachers! I had teachers in and out constantly just needing a chick cuddle!\r\n\r\nAs for our students, they were thrilled and in awe of getting to see a chick hatch via a live-stream camera. I took the chicks to every classroom in the school so every one of our 691 students got to pet or hold a chick depending on their level of comfort.\r\n\r\nThe majority of our students had never had the experience of watching an animal be born and then getting to hold it at just a few days old. They were all so incredibly gentle and sweet with the babies!\r\n\r\nThe wonderful thing is that since we now have this equipment, we plan on making this an annual project!
