Each day, I give my students opportunities to read independently and immerse themselves in their stories. We also read novels as a class and students respond thoughtfully to questions throughout the novel. \r\n\r\nWhen students in my class read, they know that it is for enjoyment and broadening their understanding of the world around them. Due to your kind generosity and donations, I am able to create long-lasting resources with my laminating pouches, create colorful anchor charts with my markers and give students the opportunity to respond to their learning on fun colored post-it notes. \r\n\r\nWe recently completed a reading activity where we read about Chinese New Year and students formulated questions they had about the topic. We had rich discussions about this event and why it is important to their culture. Student questions were well thought out and written on the post-its provided from this project. They displayed their questions on the wall and we used chart paper and markers to record questions we all agreed were most insightful. Then we used text evidence to respond or justify a response.
