I wanted to share the incredible impact your generous donation has had on our \"Voices Unlocked\" project and our multilingual students. The new headphone sets you provided are a game-changer, allowing immersive language learning experiences and enabling students to practice listening and speaking skills at their own pace. This personalized approach is crucial for building confidence and proficiency in a new language.\r\nThe headphone sets have also allowed us to create different learning spaces within the classroom, making it more adaptable and conducive to focused study. One student, Mia, who initially struggled with language acquisition, has embraced this new technology wholeheartedly. The headphones have allowed her to focus on pronunciation and comprehension without distractions, leading to significant improvements in her language skills. Seeing Mia's confidence grow has been truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nI would also like to share a heartfelt note from one of our students, Stephanie:\r\n\r\n\"Dear donor of the headphones,\r\nThank you so much for sending our class pairs of headphones for the kids. We love them so much and work better with them on. We also can now do our Lexia or Zearn without listening to any background noises or any distractions. We enjoy them so much and would want to let you know that you're an amazing person and such a kind soul for being nice enough to send our class these pairs of headphones. We're very grateful for people like you to exist. Again, thank you so much. Have a beautiful rest of your day!\"\r\n\r\nYour timely donation, received right during Christmas, was a beacon of hope for us. It lifted our spirits and renewed our commitment to providing our students with the best possible learning environment. We are incredibly grateful for your kindness and your positive impact on their lives.\r\nThank you once again for your support and for being a vital part of our students' success.","fullyFundedDate":1735238337218,"projectUrl":"project/voices-unlocked-headphones-for-language/8932618/","projectTitle":"Voices Unlocked: Headphones for Language Empowerment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ferrara","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9698720_orig.jpg?crop=2933,2933,x0,y391&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724967311785","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9698720"},{"teacherId":9804305,"projectId":8879825,"letterContent":"If you have seen how a new toy lights up the eyes of a child at Christmas, then you can imagine why I am ecstatically thankful for the resources George Hampton Middle School received from Donors Choose! Teachers give so much of ourselves, our resources and our time in and out of the classroom to ensure student success. So hopefully you can understand why teachers rely on resources from Donors Choose. Getting a package in the mail is not only like receiving gifts during the holiday, but it also eases the burden of teachers who often have to do it all. From seeing wide-eyed students as Mr. Grear uses Artie the Coding Robot in his tech ed classroom, to the individual fidget toys that students are excited to receive as incentives, we are grateful for the Donors Choose resources that have become part of our classroom learning and management systems...taking positivity to the Nth power. \r\n\r\nSome of the positive impacts include increases in student engagement and attendance. Much like schools across the nation, our school has been grappling with getting students in school and on time for classes. According to an article published in School Administrator Magazine, nationwide student attendance declined significantly during the COVID-19 era and remains lower than pre COVID numbers (Chang, 2024). In addition, studies suggest that students who are in school regularly are more likely to make academic gains than those who are chronically absent (UCLA, 2008). \r\n\r\nOur school is addressing the attendance challenge from several approaches including incentivizing perfect attendance. Our Winning Wednesday program rewards whole classes of students who have perfect attendance with resources we received from Donors Choose. Ms. Deensie is a great 7th grade math teacher, but she is an attendance guru when it comes to helping her students get to school and class on time. \"Students encourage each other to beat the bell during homeroom,\" she says with excitement. Her classes hold the record for perfect attendance. \r\n\r\nFurther, when students are in school, it is important for them to participate in active learning. The Donors Choose resources we received give us creative ways to peak students' interest. For example, my personal favorite is the ring toss carnival game. I teach 6-8th grade language arts but even the older students enjoy participating in class when they get the opportunity to do something as challenging as getting a tiny ring around the neck of a tiny bottle. I am not alone. Ms. Fritcher, who teaches social studies, uses one of the ring toss carnival games to help her students plan for high-stakes SOL testing. \"Having the students compete in groups while studying for the SOL has been exciting in my classroom,\" she confided, \"they look forward to winning points for their team and taking points away from the other team while getting a chance to throw the rings!\"\r\n\r\nFinally, the resources from Donors Choose are a significant part of our overall PBIS system. While schools across the nation incorporate attendance initiatives with PBIS, we give students points as a recognition of positive behaviors of students in and out of the classroom. During our House Pep Rallies, students compete for points and all students in the winning House receive a prize. Ms. Pietrandrea, who teaches 6th grade language arts, shared that her students were anxious to find out the contest results and were elated when they realized that they had won! They each received fidget toys our school received from Donors Choose! Additionally, students can use their individual points to purchase Donors Choose – funded items from our school store. A big hit for many students around Valentine's Day were the heart sunglasses and candy!! \r\n\r\nI may be nearing the end of this thank you, but it is by no way the end of the positive impact that Donors Choose is having on our school! The resources our school received is helping students learn through engaging classroom activities, get to school daily and on time and be overall good, community citizens. That is what school is all about. We are overjoyed that Donors Choose has played a huge role in increasing positivity in our school! \r\n\r\nWorks Cited:\r\n\r\nChang, Hedy. \"Generating Momentum on Better Attendance\".
