The tools that you generously donated have helped so many students learn coping skills, pro-social behaviors, and regulation skills. I put the weighted stuffed animal and mini emotion plush toys in my Calm Down Corner. Multiple students have used the space and the tools to calm their bodies, whether they are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, sad, or just tired. Thank you for contributing to this safe space in the classroom. \r\n\r\nThe books have been great to use as a small group or one-on-one resource with struggling students. In addition to monthly counseling lessons, we try to incorporate social-emotional learning into our everyday learning. One way that my class has done this is by reading the \"A Little Spot of Feelings\" books and then discussing our feelings and questions during morning meeting. Students are encouraged to embrace all of their emotions. Then, they are taught to take ownership over their actions and make appropriate choices to manage those emotions. I would not have such a robust arsenal of tools and books without your help. \r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in the good of these kids and helping to grant them access to social-emotional tools. As we move in to the second quarter of school, I know that the books, headphones, and plushies will continue to help the students learn to regulate and develop empathy for one another. Kids came in with their parents prior to the first day of school and admired the classroom stocked with supplies that you helped buy. Parents and fellow coworkers agreed that the classroom environment is calming, welcoming, and conducive to learning. Thank you for helping to contribute to this. \r\n\r\nWe have been using some of the materials daily such as the dry erase markers, Play-Doh, and pre-sharpened pencils. Students particularly have enjoyed using the dry erase markers to practice their fine motor skills, practice letter formation, and doodle during a brain break. We are currently finishing up a counting unit. The ten frames and sorting trays have been perfect for helping students develop early numeracy and mathematic skills. Students have already made so much progress in their counting skills!\r\n\r\nSome of the other tools such as the sand table, Play-Doh, and craft sticks have been great additions to classroom and are used during small group and choice time. Every student was impacted by this project. The nets were used in our volleyball unit allowing over 50 students to participate at one time! Without lines to wait in, students have more time to practice skills and improve. It was amazing to have 4 games happening simultaneously. \r\n\r\nThe nets are incredibly easy to set up. Our older students have taken the initiative to set them up on choice days to continue to play volleyball. Our 6th grade students have been using the paddles at recess to play pickleball outdoors. Our pickleball unit is just a few weeks away. Our 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students will be using the paddles and nets to have a mini pickleball tournament. Our younger students will be using the nets for balloon badminton.\r\n\r\nThe students are so happy with the new equipment. It is very durable and will last for years! So many students will benefit from this project for years to come.
