Our class loves music! We also like to experience things together as a group. Music is essential to toddler development. Music also brings us together through a shared experience. By experiencing the rhythm of drums and bells together with songs, chants and movement, our toddlers will enhance their social, emotional, and budding language and mathematical skills. We chose two sets of Lakeshore Heavy Duty Drums so that each child has a drum. With drums, we will feel beats, listen for and count patterns, and even build our literacy skills by sounding out the syllables of our name. We also chose POPlay wrist bells to bring melody to our music time. Each child (and teacher!) will have one wrist bell for each wrist, and since they wrap around wrists, even our infants can participate! We will shake our bells along when we gather to rehearse our favorite nursery rhymes. We build our social skills by gathering as a group, sharing materials and working together. We build emotional skills by experiencing positivity though music and by hearing uplifting words and steady rhythms. We build our language and mathematical skills by listening for patterns in both song and rhythm. Our music gatherings will happen at least two times a week (or more if the children choose!)
