It is great because it has a magnetic component but also reviews all letters and numbers 0-10. In addition the picnic basket game is super cute and fun. Kids get to explore what is inside each little basket and then match them up by color. \r\n\r\nThe best part of the project was the crystal building blocks. Even when not on a light table, the blocks are magical! They are crystalized in color and absolutely glow. Two of the main benefits it has afforded for us for the start of the year are kickbands and headphones. Neither of these things are provided by our county and they are things that I must have new and ready for the start of each school year.\r\n\r\nThe kick bands are elastic stretch bands that wrap around the front of the students chair legs. They make it possible for very active students to kick their feet to stay focused without getting up, distracting others, or getting in trouble for their extra energy.\r\n\r\nThe headphones no matter what quality rarely last more than a year. This was an awesome way to have students practice writing instead of just using paper or white boards. \r\n\r\nWe plan to use our writing tablets weekly to practice during our math block. Students who struggled to differentiate between addition and subtraction exercises have blossomed with the use of the addition machine. They can see the actual joining of groups and how the come together to form a sum. It was a fun, hands-on exercise and the kids enjoyed it as much as they benefited from it! \r\nWhen the kids first saw the transportation counters they were so excited to use them for counting and sorting. I loved to see how they naturally sorted first: by color, transportation mode, or equal shares. Each group had a new idea. \r\nFinally the best material was the didax blocks. Previously, we did not have a material to practice making sets of ones, tens, and 100's. It was eye opening for those that were still learning to make teens and the ones that needed the extra challenge benefited from the enrichment and ability to build big numbers. \r\nThank you for making math fun and engaging for all learners. I cannot imagine the great things that will happen when students have that resource in the fall next year!\r\n\r\nOur screwdriver/light box/tool kits have been amazing for hands-on learning. And they don't know it yet, but it's helped with their fine motor skills. We have been able to discuss and put to good use the real world terms and practice of left/right/above/below. \r\n\r\nAnd the busy book has been a great independent review of so many skills including but not limited to: numbers, colors, calendar skills, weather, and money! \r\n\r\nI love that Donors Choose makes independent, hands-on learning so much fun and so easy for my students and I! They are NEVER sad to play inside and the very first kids asked, go directly to kitchen. The materials provided in this project make real-world play so fun and so accessible for my students. To hear their role play, the conversations, the play in action is just amazing! \r\n\r\nWhen the kids first saw the materials, they could not WAIT to get into them. They wanted to know if we could play right away and check out all the pieces and sounds with the items. While we had a nice kitchen before, these new materials and center pieces made the play more real, more adventurous, and more FUN!! \r\n\r\nThis is a great project that I will do again in a few years because everyday play does wear and tear on materials and kitchen play promotes so much. Oral speaking, vocabulary, conversation skills, fine motor skills, real-world application, and a way to make friends even if you cannot talk. It is actually better if no adult is monitoring because the kids use more creativity and try things that they may not do if an adult was in the group guiding them. \r\nThe pattern stack activity has been so good for oral language speaking as the kids that are involved have to talk to one another about position of objects, color, shape, etc. And you should have seen the kids faces when they realized that the marbles with the Marble Run kit glowed in the dark! Talk about a game changer for making the marble runways more complex and sophisticated. \r\nFinally, the drill set has been a game changer for my hands on learners that want to build by themselves. I had no other resource like this previously and especially my little boys just rave about what they can create and construct with their own hands! If you peep in our pictures, it was actually a Hello Kitty car that was created the day we took the photos. \r\nThank you for making learning and fun a top priority in our classroom. Each and every time my kindergarten classes have the pleasure of this amazing experience, I am in awe and wonder and this time was no different! \r\n\r\nAs soon as my students entered the class each morning, the first thing they had to do was approach the pavilion and see what the caterpillars, cocoons, butteries were doing. Each step of the process was just magical thru their eyes and science truly came alive! \r\n\r\nWith the addition of the lens we were able to look closely without disturbing nature and also became engrossed with our \"pet\" squirrel in the classroom who we could watch closely with the help of our lens and the class bird feeder. The students have really utilized fine motor skills and development with the dinosaur excavation set, the lock and key activity, and the magnet chips and wand. The kids were so excited when the supplies arrived and they each needed to try out every item as soon as possible! It was an amazing thing to see them so excited about learning and using those STEM skills. We have done them whole group and in small group and the enthusiasm and motivation continues each time. There are new things to try and do and the sensory beads and pluffle have made simple tasks like letter and number review a whole new adventure.
