What was once a small, quickly depleted section of a few shelves is now a constantly circulating collection that students eagerly return to regularly. Reading in our space now looks different, in the best way. I have seen many students recommend some of our new Manga series to their friends and they keep coming back to get the next volume or try out another series. For many of them, this is the first time they've chosen to read consistently on their own, and that shift has been incredibly powerful to witness.\r\nWhile Manga may look different from traditional novels, it is helping students build essential literacy skills in meaningful ways. These texts strengthen comprehension through visual context clues, support inference as students interpret emotions and action between panels, and build stamina as students commit to long-running series. These books are not just engaging, they are teaching students how to think as readers.\r\nSome of the most meaningful moments have come from students who didn't previously see themselves as readers. I have students who now visit the library each week asking for the next volume and students who excitedly share their favorite characters.Your support didn't just provide books, it created access, excitement, and a sense of belonging in our library. You have truly helped open the door to reading for so many of my students, and they are walking through it every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1764000929668,"projectUrl":"project/manga-mania-in-the-library/9894559/","projectTitle":"Manga Mania in the Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Acosta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10349958"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33437","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1034,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":14,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":90,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.5,"schoolId":33437,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Wahlquist Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Wahlquist Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/weber-school-district/wahlquist-junior-high-school/33437"}
