However the bismuth you allowed my students to get for class was a major hit. the students were beyond surprised about the before and after of doing our Bismuth crystal experiment. They could not believe what they were seeing. The students though i was just showing them a big block of heavy metal. As soon the big block started to melt the Oh's and awe's started and continued the entire time as the block slowly became a giant bowl of really hot liquid. At this point the students thought the experiment was over so we started talking about the material, as it cooled the students could see the top start to harden and then the questions started. Is that going to just harden back up in the block? How do you get rid of that? What will happen if you put it in the freezer? Is it going to make something? at the end of the class the liquid has cooled and i ask them to pay attention, this is where I slowly pull out the bismuth crystal that has formed and almost every student was so surprised they didn't even say much except for asking for the crystal. The next day I had almost every student ask me where they could get bismuth from or can they do that at home? \r\n This led perfectly into our discussion about crystals forming through volcanic activities. This project gave the students a great opportunity to watch how a crystal is formed from very hot material and how the longer you let it cool the bigger crystals that we can find, We also discussed how bismuth is found naturally and how most of them have swallowed bismuth before, especially if they have ever taken something for heartburn. The students were amazed how there are so many different uses for this material and how much it can change with different processing procedures.\r\n\r\nI just want to thank all of you again for allowing my students to have this amazing opportunity.","fullyFundedDate":1723682540517,"projectUrl":"project/bismuth-to-crystals/8354509/","projectTitle":"Bismuth to Crystals","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Haight","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8574820_orig.jpg?crop=1358,1358,x218,y655&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659814012081","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8574820"},{"teacherId":2795520,"projectId":8963487,"letterContent":"Next week we will begin reading White Bird as a continuation of a Holocaust unit. As an educator deeply committed to fostering both academic and athletic excellence, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact that your donation has had on our students and their engagement with the sport of lacrosse and related activities.\r\n\r\nLacrosse, a sport rich in history and tradition, has recently gained popularity among our students, sparking an interest that transcends physical activity and delves into teamwork, strategy, and personal growth. Your contribution has provided us with the necessary equipment to introduce lacrosse to a diverse group of students, many of whom have never had the opportunity to participate in such a dynamic sport.\r\n\r\nThe availability of lacrosse sticks, balls, and safety gear has allowed us to create a comprehensive curriculum that not only teaches the fundamentals of the game but also instills critical life skills. Through drills and throwing games, students have developed hand-eye coordination, agility, and spatial awareness—skills that are essential both on and off the field. More importantly, these activities have fostered a sense of community and belonging among students from varying backgrounds.\r\n\r\nOne of the most remarkable outcomes of integrating lacrosse into our physical education program has been the enhancement of students' social skills and self-esteem. For instance, students who were previously hesitant to participate in team sports have found a place where they can excel and contribute. The inclusive nature of lacrosse encourages students to support one another, celebrate successes, and learn from challenges. This sense of camaraderie and mutual respect has permeated other aspects of school life, leading to a more cohesive and supportive student body.\r\n\r\nMoreover, lacrosse has provided a unique platform for students to explore leadership and responsibility. As students take on roles such as team captains or lead drills, they are learning to communicate effectively, make strategic decisions, and motivate their peers. These experiences are invaluable, equipping students with the confidence and skills needed to succeed in future endeavors.\r\n\r\nThe introduction of throwing games as a supplementary activity has also been a significant success. These games not only serve as an engaging and fun way to practice lacrosse skills but also emphasize the importance of precision, focus, and teamwork. Students have embraced these games with enthusiasm, often organizing them during free time and recess, which speaks volumes about their engagement and the positive impact on their physical health and well-being.\r\n\r\nReflecting on the personal impact, I've observed students who were once reluctant to participate in physical education classes now eagerly anticipate lacrosse days. For instance, a student named Alex, who struggled with self-confidence, has blossomed into a formidable player and an enthusiastic advocate for the sport. Alex's transformation is just one example of how your support has profoundly affected individual students, fostering a sense of achievement and belonging that extends beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nYour donation has not only enriched our students' physical education experience but has also provided opportunities for personal growth and development. It has allowed us to cultivate an environment where students feel empowered, valued, and inspired to chase their potential. This impact extends to the broader community, as students bring their newfound skills and confidence back to their families and neighborhoods, further promoting the values of teamwork, perseverance, and respect.\r\n\r\nIn closing, I want to extend my deepest thanks for your generous support. Your contribution has made an immeasurable difference in the lives of our students, providing them with opportunities they might not have otherwise had. We are incredibly grateful for your commitment to education and your belief in the power of sports to transform lives. It is my hope that we will continue to build on this momentum, fostering a generation of students who are not only physically active but also socially and emotionally resilient.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your kindness and support. We are excited to share our future successes and continue celebrating the positive impact of your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1733185339524,"projectUrl":"project/introduction-to-lacrosse-and-throwing-ga/8678252/","projectTitle":"Introduction to Lacrosse and Throwing Games","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lord","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2046963"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_31178","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1383,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":24,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":63,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.2,"schoolId":31178,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sunset Ridge Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sunset Ridge Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/jordan-school-district/sunset-ridge-middle-school/31178"}
