Learning about circuits is a lot different from actually making one, and this opportunity made a huge impact on my art students. Not only were they reminded that art connects to every other subject and can be made with all kinds of materials, they were able to learn the importance of completing a circuit by moving through the process themselves rather than through a computer simulation. This has made a lasting impression and they're sure to ace their RISE tests this year on this subject.\r\n\r\nCommon mistakes included putting too much tape over the battery so that the conductive tape couldn't touch it directly when closing the switch, not overlapping the tape when turning a corner (even though two pieces of conductive tape may look like they're touching, the current couldn't jump even the smallest gaps), and continuing the conductive tape right over the hole for the LED rather than having separate pieces for the positive and negative sides. Luckily all these mistakes were learning opportunities that helped to solidify students' understanding of open and closed circuits, and by the end everyone was successful. Early finishers were able to help those who were struggling to move through our troubleshooting checklist, and when students can teach each other that's the best sign that they have internalized the concepts. \r\n\r\nWe actually ended up with a few extra LEDS and circuit tape, so I'm going to keep these in my special supply closet so that students can use them in 3d sculptures to deepen their learning. Making a circuit with a switch is a little trickier in 3d, but two students have already done it and more will take the opportunity, I'm sure.","fullyFundedDate":1757543968542,"projectUrl":"project/led-greeting-card-art/9674228/","projectTitle":"LED Greeting Card Art","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shasta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8709057_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756830443018","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/shasta"},{"teacherId":2029635,"projectId":9449041,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our Scholastic News and Science Spin magazines this school year. We read our magazines together as a class weekly. The online component also has a video to peak their interest, vocabulary word introduction, and fun game to test their knowledge after reading. All these helps with their reading skills.\r\nMy students are learning science topics such as how animals adapt and survive from their Science Spin magazines. These go right along with what we are studying in our science core.\r\nOur Scholastic News magazines help my students learn how nonfiction text works. They see the captions and photos that go along with non fiction text. There are also teacher ideas for how to teach more in depth reading skills with the magazines.\r\nThe Scholastic News magazines also help me in teaching our social studies. The magazines focus on important events that happen each month of the school year. Next month is Halloween and fire safety.\r\nAs a teacher is gives me a fun way to expand their reading.\r\nThank you again for funding my project.","fullyFundedDate":1752033549721,"projectUrl":"project/scholastic-news-magazines-are-amazing/9449041/","projectTitle":"Scholastic News Magazines Are Amazing!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2029635_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1471114581407","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2029635"},{"teacherId":8709057,"projectId":8848931,"letterContent":"My students have been loving these supplies although we have yet to start our clay units using the model magic and air-dry clay.
