The new cabinets have streamlined the room's aesthetic, allowing things to be pleasingly organized and congruent. The darling pink locker cabinet adds a touch of nostalgia and keeps toys and tools off the floor and in a proper place. Organization is so important to me and helps my dysregulated students feel peace.\r\n\r\nMy new weighted plushie animals are by far the favorite tool in my room. Students literally squealed with delight when they saw the new additions. Not only do students love to play with them, but they also receive immediate stress relief and comfort by simply placing them on their chest or back. Many students choose to set two or three on their chest when they're feeling particularly large emotions. Already, this has proved to be a favorite tool for many students and adds an additional relaxation piece for the teachers and staff at our school, too. \r\n\r\nWhen the students helped me unpackage the materials, I was met with delight, awe, and appreciation. Even my quietest students had a smile on their faces. All were eager to begin using the tools received. \r\n\r\nThe following steps for this tool include an ongoing training piece for me as the counselor to guide students in best practices as they share their feelings and stories through play. By the time our next school year begins, every student who chooses to use the sand tray will be permitted to do so.
