There are many ways to encourage participation and reinforce positive behavior. Having treats gets the attention of the students, all of a sudden hands are going up wanting to answer a question. This is important because they have to be listening and paying attention to be able to answer a question. The markers provide a way for the students to show their work and get praise for their answers. Some students work provides examples to other students. Positive reinforcement increases engagement in the classroom.
