Recently, we used the materials for a hands-on STEM project where students designed and built their own bridges using the engineering kits we received. It was incredible to see their creativity and problem-solving skills in action as they tested how much weight their bridges could hold and revised their designs. One group even added a working drawbridge mechanism using gears and pulleys—it was such a proud moment!\r\n\r\nThe excitement was immediate and contagious! The moment the boxes arrived, students gathered around, eagerly asking, \"Is that for us?\" and \"Can we use it today?\" Several students who are usually quieter in class lit up and immediately started brainstorming how we could use the new tools. It really felt like Christmas morning in our classroom.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include integrating the resources into a cross-curricular project where students will research a real-world problem, propose a solution, and present their ideas using both written reports and prototypes built with the new materials. It's an exciting challenge that encourages collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. These resources are not just tools—they're gateways to deeper engagement and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1751059511844,"projectUrl":"project/kindergarten-stem-materials/9406777/","projectTitle":"Kindergarten STEM Materials!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sorensen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10007324_orig.jpg?crop=5504,5504,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749577937084","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10007324"},{"teacherId":8617415,"projectId":8954345,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping us to get another music stand holder for our stands! Myself and my students are so grateful for the safety and convenience that the holder provides! \r\nAt Lehi Elementary School, we have both a chime choir that uses stands in the Fall/Winter, and a symphony program that use stands in the Spring, so my symphony students are currently enjoying the stand holder at the start and end of each practice. When it comes time for our performance, it will be so much easier to bring all the stands to the stage as well!\r\nIt has also been so nice to not have to worry about students accidentally knocking over stands during regular music classes! Sometimes I incorporate movement into lessons, and I've had to worry about students messing with loose stands or having students accidentally run into them or get hurt. Now, I don't have to worry as much about that because every stand has a place!\r\nThank you again so very much for your donation towards another music stand holder! It has already directly benefitted myself and the symphony students and will benefit the rest of the students in the coming years as well!","fullyFundedDate":1738183487469,"projectUrl":"project/another-music-stand-holder-for-music-cla/8954345/","projectTitle":"Another Music Stand Holder for Music Class!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8617415_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660329849995","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8617415"},{"teacherId":7881722,"projectId":8674974,"letterContent":"Dear Donors,\r\n\r\nThank you so much for supporting our classroom and helping us bring new books to our students. Your generosity has made a world of difference, and I'm excited to share some of the positive impacts your donations have had on our learning environment.\r\n\r\n**Skills and Lessons Introduced by the New Texts:**\r\n\r\nThe new books you helped us acquire have been invaluable in introducing a variety of essential skills to our students. These texts cover a broad range of genres and topics, which has allowed us to work on several key areas, such as:\r\n\r\n1. **Critical Thinking:** The diverse perspectives in the new books have sparked thoughtful discussions. We've been able to explore themes like empathy, resilience, and social justice, which encourage students to think critically about the world around them.\r\n \r\n2. **Comprehension and Analysis:** The texts are also pushing students to dig deeper into plot development, character motivations, and literary devices like symbolism and foreshadowing. We've been able to work on comprehension strategies, such as summarizing, questioning, and making inferences, which are key skills for reading success.\r\n\r\n3. **Vocabulary Expansion:** Many of the books contain rich vocabulary and new concepts. Students are excited to learn and incorporate new words, and we've seen improvements in their writing and speaking skills as a result.\r\n\r\n4. **Independent Reading and Confidence:** With a wider variety of books at their fingertips, students have become more confident in choosing books that challenge them at their individual reading levels, fostering a love for independent reading.\r\n\r\n**What Reading Looks Like in Our Classroom:**\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become a dynamic and engaging experience. We begin most days with a shared reading session where students participate in reading aloud, paired reading, or listening to a teacher-led read-aloud. Afterward, students break into small groups or read independently. \r\n\r\nReading time is filled with discussions, group reflections, and activities like book chats, journaling, and even creative projects related to the texts. We encourage students to connect the stories they read with their own lives, which makes reading feel more relevant and personal.\r\n\r\n**Particular Students Who Are Especially Enjoying the New Books:**\r\n\r\nWe've seen a huge range of students engage with the new books in meaningful ways. For example:\r\n\r\n- **Carlos**, who struggled with reading at the beginning of the year, has found a new passion for graphic novels and adventure stories. The colorful illustrations and fast-paced plots have helped him build confidence, and he's now reading regularly at home.\r\n\r\n- **Avery**, a quiet student who often preferred non-fiction, has been completely captivated by the fantasy novels we introduced. She's been enthusiastically joining group discussions and even started a \"book club\" with some of her friends, where they discuss the books they're reading outside of class.\r\n\r\n- **Lena**, a student with special needs, has been thriving with books that feature diverse characters and accessible language. She's particularly drawn to stories with strong, resilient protagonists, and it's been wonderful to see her develop a stronger sense of self and confidence through the characters she reads about.\r\n\r\nThese are just a few examples, but the joy of seeing students excited about reading is one of the most rewarding aspects of this project.\r\n\r\nIn short, the new books have not only expanded our library but have also enhanced the way our students engage with literature. They are reading more, thinking more deeply, and sharing their ideas with enthusiasm. Your support has given them the tools they need to succeed—and to develop a lifelong love of reading.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous support!","fullyFundedDate":1724628629294,"projectUrl":"project/learning-to-love-to-read/8674974/","projectTitle":"Learning to Love to Read","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Loveridge","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7881722"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33321","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":476,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":20,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":79,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":33321,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lehi Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lehi Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/alpine-school-district/lehi-elementary-school/33321"}
