I was so excited to use our new materials that you so generously donated! \r\nWe are in a 70 year old school, so we don't have a white board on the wall behind us while we teach. You donated a magnetic white board which was essential for many different parts of our lesson. We display all of our visual aids for the lesson on this board.\r\n I was also so excited to use the magnetic drawing pads with our students. In the past, we have just had our students practice writing the letter of the day either in the air or on the carpet. This was not very effective. They now have these fun, colorful drawing pads to practice writing the letter after we teach it. It provides tactile and visual feedback which will be tremendously more effective. The students loved that part of the lesson! Plus there is no mess like there could be with dry erase markers and preschool students.\r\nThe books that you donated will be used throughout the year. We have literacy based lessons using picture books that have preschool appropriate language. It is very important to have engaging story books for this age group. I am sorry that I wasn't able to take more photos. I was running the show that day while also training four other therapists how to run a Talking Time class. We have never had frisbees, soccer balls, or jump ropes. Having an abundance of equipment has allowed them to all enjoy structured play. The recess aides have commented on how engaged the kids are during their recess time. The recess equipment has also taught responsibility and organization. They are responsible for returning all checked-out equipment to its proper location. Students are ready to learn when their minds and emotions are in a calm space!\r\n\r\nThe light up wands were one of the highly sought after sensory tools for my autistic students. Something about the spinning and lights held their attention, and I saw many bids for requests and joint attention with the wands.
