Your support has provided the essential tools my high school life-skills students need to master critical real-world responsibilities and transition confidently into adulthood.\r\nHow We Are Using the Resources & A Specific Moment\r\nWe are using the new planners and color-coding materials daily to help students map out their schedules and track their routines. At the same time, we will officially launch our classroom store cart. A specific moment that stands out occurred when we opened the store for its first \"business day\" in 2 weeks. Students will practice budgeting to purchase everyday essentials like lip balm and personal tissue packs.\r\nStudent Reactions\r\nWhen the students first saw the classroom store cart and the stack of brand-new planners, they were absolutely thrilled. They immediately began picking out their favorite colored planners, and their eyes completely lit up when they saw the store cart stocked with fun pens and items they actually use every day. Having these high-quality, adult tools made them feel a deep sense of pride and ownership over their daily learning.\r\nOur Next Steps\r\nNow that our classroom store economy is ready to keep developing, our next step is to bridge these habits into the community. We are starting a lesson unit focused on community-based instruction where students will take the budgeting skills they are learning at the cart and apply them at a real local grocery store. Your investment has given these soon-to-be adults the confidence, tools, and practical skills required to navigate the world successfully.","fullyFundedDate":1778262209451,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-organized/10271221/","projectTitle":"Let's Get Organized","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Prescher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2515065_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752371279508","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/miss-eickholt"},{"teacherId":2515065,"projectId":10274156,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible generosity in funding our classroom sensory project. Your investment has provided the vital tools necessary to create a safe, calming environment where my special education students can process their emotions and learn to thrive.\r\nHow We Are Using the Resources & A Specific Moment\r\nWe have used these resources to build a dedicated \"chill corner\" in our classroom, integrating the sequin wall, sensory tiles, and calming light directly into our daily routine. A specific moment that stands out occurred this week when a student became overwhelmed. Instead of escalating into a physical crisis, the student was able to independently retreat to the chill corner. They ran their hands along the textured sensory tiles and flipped the colors on the sequin wall while using a stress ball. Within minutes, they successfully de-escalated their feelings and safely rejoined the lesson.\r\nStudent Reactions\r\nWhen the students first saw the new sensory materials unpacked, their faces filled with pure awe and curiosity. They were instantly drawn to the glowing light and the vibrant sequin wall, eagerly taking turns to touch the different textures. For my students with intense clinical sensory needs, seeing these specialized items in their own classroom brought an immediate sense of relief, comfort, and safety.\r\nOur Next Steps\r\nNow that the chill corner is fully established, our next step is to guide students in identifying their specific personal triggers before an escalation happens. We are starting a new social-emotional learning unit where students will match their specific feelings to a corresponding tool in the sensory corner. Your support has given these students lifelong coping mechanisms, helping them grow into emotionally resilient individuals.","fullyFundedDate":1778262212537,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-unload/10274156/","projectTitle":"Sensory Unload","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Prescher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2515065_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752371279508","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/miss-eickholt"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14741","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1704,"numTeachers":134,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":29,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":59,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":70.5,"schoolId":14741,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Waco High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Waco High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/waco-independent-school-district/waco-high-school/14741"}
