Because our gym does not have a basketball hoop, this equipment has given our students a much-needed opportunity to practice basketball skills in a fun and exciting way.\r\n\r\nWe used the Pop-A-Shot for the first time during our Fall Olympic Field Day, and it was an instant favorite. The students were thrilled when they saw it being built leading up to the event and could not wait for their turn to shoot. During the field day they were cheering for one another, celebrating each basket, and asking when they would get to use it again. Seeing their excitement and enthusiasm was truly special.\r\n\r\nNext, we will use the Pop-A-Shot during our basketball unit to help students practice proper shooting form, aim, coordination, and perseverance. It will also give them opportunities to set personal goals, track their improvement, and encourage their classmates. Our students were incredibly excited to see the new equipment, especially the putting golf set, plyometric jump box, and Spikeball set. Many of our older balls yarn balls were worn out, and the footballs we previously had were too large for our Little Longhorns. Having safe, age-appropriate equipment gives every student a better opportunity to participate, build confidence, and experience success.\r\nThe new yarn balls are already helping students safely practice throwing and catching, and they are perfect for several of our favorite PE games like sprout ball and germ ball. The smaller footballs made a tremendous difference during our football unit by allowing students to learn proper passing and catching techniques with equipment that fits their hands. We are also looking forward to creating new activity stations featuring putting, plyometric jumping, and Spikeball. Some students got to try out spikeball and putt putt during our Olympic Field Day last week. They loved trying new things. These stations will help students develop accuracy, balance, coordination, agility, teamwork, and perseverance.\r\nBy introducing our students to a variety of sports and activities, we hope they will discover new ways to enjoy movement and be more likely to lead active, healthy lives in the future.
