As soon as we rolled the board into the classroom, students gathered around asking when they would get a chance to use it. Their excitement grew even more when they saw the colorful dry-erase markers and flip chart paper, and several students volunteered right away to solve problems at the board. It was clear from the start that these materials made learning feel more interactive and student-centered.\r\n\r\nWe are now using the mobile whiteboard daily for small-group instruction, collaborative problem-solving, and student-led demonstrations. One memorable moment was during a group activity where students worked together to solve multi-step math problems, using different marker colors to show each step of their thinking. This allowed students to explain their reasoning clearly and learn from one another. The achievement certificates have also become a powerful motivator—students beam with pride when their progress is recognized, whether it's mastering a new concept or showing perseverance through a challenging lesson.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to support our current math units by encouraging active participation, collaboration, and confidence. Students will lead more problem-solving sessions, present their thinking to peers, and reflect on their growth using the visual tools provided. Because of your generosity, my classroom is a more engaging and encouraging learning environment where students feel empowered to take risks and celebrate their success. Thank you for investing in my students and their journey toward math achievement.","fullyFundedDate":1758202705990,"projectUrl":"project/marking-success-tools-for-math-achievem/9599071/","projectTitle":"Marking Success: Tools for Math Achievement","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Benford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9284179_orig.png?crop=451,451,x217,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1706116536300","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9284179"},{"teacherId":9284179,"projectId":9641839,"letterContent":"When our new games arrived, my students' excitement filled the room before the boxes were even open. They immediately started guessing what was inside, and when they saw classics like Guess Who, Mancala, Uno, Battleship, and Monopoly, their faces lit up. Many of them said they hadn't played these games since childhood — and some had never played them at all. Watching them gather around the tables, reading rules, choosing partners, and jumping into gameplay showed exactly why these materials matter.\r\n\r\nWe've already started using the games in small-group stations and advisory, especially as warm-ups for building strategic thinking and teamwork. One of my favorite moments was seeing a student who normally struggles with confidence completely focused during a chess match, planning moves and explaining his strategy to a classmate. Another group of students used Scrabble tiles to challenge each other to create math vocabulary words, and they proudly connected the meanings back to what we were learning in class. These games have become a bridge — helping students practice communication, problem-solving, and patience in ways that feel natural and fun.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, the next step is weaving these games into our weekly routines to support critical thinking, community-building, and academic review. Students are already requesting \"game challenges\" tied to our current units, and we're planning to incorporate strategy-based games into upcoming lessons on logic and reasoning. Thanks to your generosity, my classroom is now a place where students learn not only through instruction, but through joyful, meaningful play. Your support has created moments of connection, confidence, and curiosity that will last long beyond this project.","fullyFundedDate":1756415707415,"projectUrl":"project/game-on-building-minds-through-play/9641839/","projectTitle":"Game On: Building Minds Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Benford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9284179_orig.png?crop=451,451,x217,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1706116536300","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9284179"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_122599","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":320,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":75,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.0,"schoolId":122599,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about KIPP Connect Preparatory on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"KIPP Connect Preparatory","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/texas-department-of-education/kipp-connect-houston-high-school/122599"}
