Our class sets are extremely outdated and worn, and I knew I couldn't afford to purchase new books. At the same time, I felt like I would be doing my students a disservice if I didn't provide them with something they could truly relate to, with modern colloquialisms and slang that felt familiar to them. I wanted them to really FEEL what they were reading and get so lost in the story that they could forget they were in school learning.\r\n\r\nI spent a third of my paycheck purchasing the first book in this series, thinking to myself, \"Wow, I can't keep doing this and still make ends meet.\" I felt embarrassed to ask for help because I know so many of us are struggling, but I am SO glad I did!\r\n\r\nNow, my students can follow Gregor on his adventure and see it through all the way to the very end!\r\n\r\nThank you from the bottom of my heart for helping make this possible for my students.\r\n\r\nThese books help my students build reading comprehension, vocabulary, inferencing, and the ability to analyze characters, conflicts, and themes. Because the language feels more familiar to them, students can connect with the story while learning to use context clues, make predictions, and support their thinking with text evidence. Most importantly, these books help students see reading as something enjoyable rather than just another school assignment.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is about more than just getting through a book. We read together, discuss what is happening in the story, make predictions, and share our thoughts about the characters and their decisions. \r\n\r\nI have students with different reading abilities and interests, and I love seeing them connect with a story in their own ways. For some students, having characters and language that feel more familiar makes reading more engaging and easier to connect with. For others, the adventure and suspense keep them wanting to read more. I especially love that these books give my students something to look forward to and a shared story they can talk about together.
