These diversity resources have helped create opportunities for students to see themselves represented while also learning about the experiences of others. Through these materials, students are developing important skills such as empathy, perspective-taking, critical thinking, and understanding how people can have different experiences while still sharing common values and goals.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading and learning are more than simply moving through pages or completing assignments. Students discuss ideas, ask questions, make personal connections, and think about the world around them. We often pause to talk about characters, cultures, traditions, and real-life situations that help students understand that every person's story matters. Students have become more willing to share their own experiences and listen respectfully to the experiences of others.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who are often quieter during classroom discussions have become more engaged because they found stories and topics they could personally relate to. It has been rewarding to watch students become excited about learning and to see meaningful conversations happen naturally.
