Because of your donation, each grade level will get to create their own art based on an illustrator and book read in the library. Pre-K students were excited about painting and mixing colors after reading and learning about Herve Tullet and his book, Mix It Up. Students were able to see new colors made after mixing the primary colors of paint. The fingerpaints and cardstock were used for this project. Second graders made hats after reading Very Good Hats that included art by Blanca Gomez. The resources are going a long way, and there are so many fun projects students are doing or will be doing. First graders made Matter Monsters and used the stickers and glitter cardstock as part of their creations when reviewing the properties of matter. They had such a great time and were excited to use many pretty and unique materials. Fourth graders will use the blue food coloring to experiment with the formation of a hurricane during their Hurricane Season unit. \r\n\r\nThe next steps for these materials include first graders using the perler beads to create in order to understand heating and cooling. The Titanic artifacts will be used with fourth graders during their Titanic unit in the second semester. I told some students about the artifacts already, and they are excited! Next week, second graders will focus on the setting of Water Princess and how it is important to the story. \r\n\r\nBesides books, the students love the stuffed owl and dragon. The dragon actually stays in the reading area and greets younger students when they enter the reading area (and of course, it was named by students). These materials are not available in the library at all times, but they are put away for special time periods such as when students complete their work in class, they can come to the library and choose a low tech item.
