When the students first saw the telephoto lenses and secure filing cabinet, their eyes lit up with excitement—they felt like \"real\" photojournalists. The mobile organizer and heavy-duty stapler immediately went to work, giving them the structured, tidy environment they needed to focus entirely on their craft.\r\n\r\nRecently, our Yearbook Club used the new lenses to capture a live, fast-moving school basketball game. Because of your generosity, they were able to shoot crisp, high-quality action photos from the bleachers without any blur. Knowing our expensive gear is now safely locked away at the end of the day has also taught them invaluable lessons in equipment care and professional responsibility.\r\n\r\nNext up, our Broadcasting and Graphic Design students are teaming up to produce a school-wide digital news segment and accompanying magazine. Equipped with the proper lens hoods and tools, they are currently storyboarding their next features and practicing advanced lighting techniques. A lot of people use cameras and tech at home for quick photos, but seeing how these kids use them in the classroom is a whole different ballgame. They aren't just scrolling through media anymore; they're actually learning the science behind it. They are figuring out manual settings, learning how to frame a great shot, and keeping track of files on the SD cards. It's teaching them so much about responsibility and teamwork, all while they think they're just having fun making videos.\r\n\r\nHonestly, the thing the kids are most excited about is just having the freedom to create without rushing. Before this, we had so few cameras that students were constantly waiting around for their turn, or they had to cut their shoots short. Now, with the new gear and the extra batteries, they can actually take their time, experiment, and fix their mistakes. Plus, the yearbook crew can finally cover a whole football game or evening school play without worrying about the camera dying halfway through. It has taken so much stress out of the process for them.\r\n\r\nThe coolest part of all of this has been watching some of our quieter kids completely come out of their shells. We have a few students who are super introverted and used to dread speaking up in class, but putting a camera in their hands has given them a whole new wave of confidence. It gives them a specific job to do at school events, which makes socializing so much easier for them. One of my students who barely said a word at the start of the year is now completely running the technical side of our daily announcements, directing their peers like a pro. Your support didn't just give us new gadgets, it gave these kids a place to really belong and shine.\r\n\r\nWe also want to give a massive, special thank you to United Airlines for stepping up and funding this project for our students. Having a major company invest in our classroom means the world to us, and it shows the kids that their community really believes in their potential. We are so incredibly grateful for your generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1736870619300,"projectUrl":"project/expanding-our-broadcasting-and-yearbook/8796636/","projectTitle":"Expanding Our Broadcasting and Yearbook Programs with Essential Equipment!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Navarro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8722674_orig.jpg?crop=1024,1024,x0,y23&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1783821414530","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/shirleyfuller"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_11382","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1026,"numTeachers":87,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":36,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":55,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.3,"schoolId":11382,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Humble Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Humble Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/humble-independent-school-district/humble-middle-school/11382"}
