We aren't quite done with it, but I was so excited to tell you about it that I just couldn't wait. Before this, we read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley which was pretty difficult for them. The vocabulary and syntax are intense. The story is cyclical and complex. Let's just say they struggled, but it was good.\r\n\r\nThis novel is just as complex and amazing, but it is much easier to understand. You have no idea how much they are appreciating a book that is more accessible. They're eager and excited, which just makes my life so much happier. They love the murder mystery vibe! They keep comparing it to books, tv shows, and movies that they already know. I had to explain to them that many modern writers were inspired by the way Agatha Christie wrote.\r\n\r\nIt's a very common story of strangers all meeting in a remote place, and there's a killer among them. Everyone has a secret, and they keep dropping like flies. I love that I get to show them the origin of this concept, and that it was written by a woman almost 100 years ago. This novel is amazing, and you have no idea how much we appreciate it.","fullyFundedDate":1771454382568,"projectUrl":"project/class-set-of-classic-agatha-christie-nov/9962047/","projectTitle":"Class Set of Classic Agatha Christie Novel","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Levy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6737260_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1566769103796","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/k-levy"},{"teacherId":6737260,"projectId":10033782,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible generosity in providing our class with a full set of Wuthering Heights. Reading this classic together was a highlight of our semester. While the complex language and dark themes definitely challenged my students, they rose to the occasion and had a ton of fun diving into the world of the moors. My female students, in particular, found themselves deeply invested in the story, and the book sparked some of our most spirited classroom discussions all year.\r\n\r\nBeyond the text itself, having these physical copies allowed us to engage in a fascinating compare/contrast exercise with the recent film adaptation. We also spent a great deal of time exploring Emily Brontë's life, and my class was captivated by how unusual and fiercely independent she was as a person. Your gift didn't just provide books; it provided a rich, multi-layered literary experience that my students will never forget.","fullyFundedDate":1769715604386,"projectUrl":"project/project-bront-reaching-new-heights/10033782/","projectTitle":"Project Brontë: Reaching New Heights","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Levy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6737260_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1566769103796","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/k-levy"},{"teacherId":6737260,"projectId":10072379,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom. Because of you, my students were able to spend the last month reading and deeply engaging with The Handmaid's Tale, and the impact has been profound.\r\n\r\nThis novel sparked some of the most thoughtful and passionate discussions I have seen in my classroom. Students eagerly debated themes of power, identity, freedom, and resistance, drawing insightful parallels between the world of the novel and aspects of our current society. They challenged one another respectfully, supported their ideas with evidence, and learned how to navigate complex and sometimes uncomfortable conversations with maturity.\r\n\r\nWhat stood out most was how personally many of my students connected to the text. In particular, my young women felt a powerful connection to the story. They reflected on voice, autonomy, and the importance of being heard, often sharing personal insights that elevated our class discussions in meaningful ways. Watching them recognize the relevance of literature to their own lives was a powerful reminder of why stories matter.\r\n\r\nYour donation did more than put books in students' hands. It created space for critical thinking, empathy, and courageous conversation. Thank you for investing in my students and in the transformative power of literature. Your generosity has made a lasting difference in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1770053803403,"projectUrl":"project/under-his-eye-authoritarianism-vs-in/10072379/","projectTitle":"“Under His Eye”: Authoritarianism vs. Individuality in The Handmaid’s Tale","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Levy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6737260_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1566769103796","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/k-levy"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_16053","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1141,"numTeachers":97,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":83,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.9,"schoolId":16053,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Northside High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Northside High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/houston-independent-school-district/davis-high-school/16053"}
