My Advanced Biology 1 students and Advanced Placement Biology students have used these microscopes to explore many cells. Most recently, AP Biology explored onion root tip cells and fish blastula cells undergoing the cell cycle. They gathered data, calculating the time spent in each phase of the cell cycle and mitosis. They then compared that to cells that were treated with a hormone and analyzed the effects of the hormone on cell division.\r\n\r\nWith your generous donation, my students were able to work in pairs instead of groups of 3-4, giving each student more hands-on time honing their microscopy skills and exploring the slides we observed. Many of my students want to pursue careers in STEM, and the microscopy skills are vital in many biology and medical careers.\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you very much for your donation.","fullyFundedDate":1757033659747,"projectUrl":"project/microscopes-to-magnify-learning-in-biolo/9598404/","projectTitle":"Microscopes to Magnify Learning in Biology!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Koonce","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8518128_orig.jpg?crop=272,272,x0,y10&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1674084646970","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8518128"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_10476","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2191,"numTeachers":142,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":60,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.2,"schoolId":10476,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jack C Hays High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jack C Hays High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/hays-consolidated-independent-school-district/jack-c-hays-high-school/10476"}
