Because of your generosity, and especially the generosity of the Montgomery Family Fund, my students now have full access to a variety of books to choose from and read together, and the impact has already been visible in my classroom. Furthermore, students are able to read their top choice because there are enough copies to go around. Scythe and The Hunger Games are huge hits this year! What's even better is that because these two titles are the first books in their respective series, your contribution is helping to create a class of readers as several students have asked to check out other books in the series.\r\n\r\nWith these books, my 9th and 10th graders have been able to run independent reading and book club rotations built entirely around student choice. Rather than everyone reading the same novel at the same pace, students select a title that speaks to them, form small book clubs with classmates who chose the same book, and lead their own discussions and mini–Socratic Seminars. \r\n\r\nThis has mattered especially for the range of learners in my room. Students who read below grade level finally have a genuine choice among engaging, age-appropriate titles instead of being handed \"the easy book.\" My English learners are building fluency and confidence talking about complex ideas with peers in a lower-stakes, small-group setting. My advanced readers are digging deeper into the text and producing college level literary analysis. (It's always great when I hear a student say, \"Did you notice the alliteration here?\") Every student, regardless of where they're starting from, gets to feel like a real reader with a choice in what they read, not just another \"boring\" assigned text. \r\n\r\nThank you for seeing the value in that and for making it possible. You didn't just give my students books, you gave them ownership over their reading, and that's making a real difference in how they see themselves as readers.
