Language barriers and abstract concepts can make algebra feel impossible. When our Hands2Mind manipulatives arrived, everything changed. Suddenly, math was no longer something they just heard about—it was something they could touch, build, and understand.\r\nUsing algebra tiles, positive and negative counters, and coordinate grids, students began to physically model equations. I watched students who once shut down during math light up with excitement as they made connections on their own. They proudly explained their thinking, pointing to the manipulatives as they spoke—something that wasn't happening before.\r\n\r\nThe Kaplan flashcards also became a daily favorite. Students practiced math vocabulary together, improving pronunciation, fluency, and confidence. For many, this was the first time they felt comfortable using academic language out loud in front of peers.\r\nBecause of you, our classroom made incredible progress. In just a month and a half, we reduced the number of students scoring at the Does Not Meet (Failing) level from 91% to 64%. That number represents real children—students who now believe they can succeed.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, my students love learning with these tools. They ask to use them. They support each other. They persevere when problems get hard.\r\nThank you for believing in my students and investing in their future. Your kindness has made a lasting impact that will continue far beyond this school year.","fullyFundedDate":1769177282001,"projectUrl":"project/speak-math-fluently-empowering-every-la/9792873/","projectTitle":"Speak Math Fluently: Empowering Every Language to Excel","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Allen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10301601"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15901","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":771,"numTeachers":62,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":82,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":47.1,"schoolId":15901,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about William James Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"William James Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/fort-worth-independent-school-district/william-james-middle-school/15901"}
