As soon as they saw the boxes delivered to our classroom, they were curious. When I told them it was a gift for them, for our classroom, they were thrilled. Giving them this brand new, cozy and welcoming Calming Corner has brought a new sense of ownership and independence.\r\nIt is their safe space, away from the busy energy that a PreK classroom can represent. And even though we tell all our students that our school is their safe place, now this calming corner has become their little safe corner, where each child is the owner of the space, if only for a little while.\r\nThey fell in love with all the gifts: they loved the space the tent provides, the lights adorning the top, the soft carpet, the comfortable cushion, the wonderful sensory toys, the visually engaging rainbow timer, and their beautiful and soft breathing body.\r\nThey take turns during the day to go in and just relax for a bit, enjoy the space and the sensory toys, and take a moment to just be, away from the rest of the class while still a part of it.\r\nIf they could, they'd run up to you and give you the biggest hug.
