These books are essential in order to host bimonthly book discussions on issues that are important to our community. Many of our students cannot afford to purchase their own books for them to mark and make their own for our discussions. We want to empower our students through knowledge. Diverse books offer a mirror and a window for young adults. It is important for them to see their self worth through the characters of books and they help them build empathy towards individuals from different backgrounds than their own. They provide a safe space for our youth to learn about current issues. With the support of the non-profit Project Lit Community, we will provide our students the opportunity to connect with other chapters across the country.
