During a recent ELAR lesson, students used the mini dry-erase boards to respond to questions, identify text evidence, and share their thinking. Even students who are sometimes hesitant to participate were willing to write an answer and hold it up. It created an encouraging moment in which every student had a voice and could participate without being afraid of making a mistake.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were genuinely excited. They immediately noticed the night-sky light covers, affirmation station, and magnetic building tiles. They loved seeing that our classroom was becoming more comfortable, organized, and designed with their needs in mind. Their reactions showed me that these supplies represented more than new materials—they helped students feel seen, valued, and celebrated.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to use these resources during reading-analysis stations and collaborative projects. Students will use the whiteboards and reading posters to practice skills such as making inferences, identifying theme, analyzing characters, and supporting responses with text evidence. The magnetic tiles will also be incorporated into hands-on activities that allow students to model plot structure, sequence events, collaborate, and think creatively. With our supplies organized and technology ready to use, students will be able to transition smoothly between activities and spend more time actively learning.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly thankful to everyone who made this project possible as part of my Teacher of the Year recognition. Your generosity is helping us build a true classroom community of champions—one where students feel safe taking risks, confident sharing their ideas, and proud of their growth as readers, writers, and people.","fullyFundedDate":1774735787839,"projectUrl":"project/champion-classroom/10124467/","projectTitle":"Champion Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10352953"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_9893","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1553,"numTeachers":68,"percentFrplEligible":39,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":77,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":94.3,"schoolId":9893,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dr Hornedo Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dr Hornedo Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/el-paso-independent-school-district/dr-hornedo-middle-school/9893"}
