Discovery Kits (Color & Light, Motion, Sound, and Magnification) from Lakeshore Learning Materials has had a tremendous impact on my Pre-K four-year-old students. At this stage of development, children learn best through hands-on exploration, and these materials have transformed our classroom into an interactive environment where math and science concepts come alive. The Ladybugs Counting Box and Counting Cones have strengthened foundational math skills such as number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, sorting, and counting with purpose. Instead of simply reciting numbers, students are physically manipulating objects, matching quantities, and visually seeing how numbers represent real amounts. This concrete practice has increased their confidence and accuracy when counting, and I have seen significant growth in their ability to recognize numbers and understand quantity. The playful design of the materials keeps students engaged and excited to practice, while also encouraging collaboration, turn-taking, and problem-solving with peers. Many of my students who were initially hesitant with math activities now eagerly choose these centers during independent work time, demonstrating both improved skills and a more positive attitude toward learning.\r\n\r\nThe Can Do! Discovery Kits have sparked curiosity and critical thinking in ways that traditional instruction alone cannot. Through the Color & Light Kit, students explore how colors mix and how light changes what they see, strengthening observation and prediction skills. The Motion Kit allows them to experiment with movement, force, and cause-and-effect, helping them understand how and why objects move. The Sound Kit introduces early scientific inquiry as students investigate vibrations and volume, while the Magnification Kit encourages close observation of everyday objects, helping children notice details they might otherwise miss. These experiences promote language development as students describe what they observe, ask questions, and explain their thinking. They are learning to make predictions, test ideas, and reflect on results—skills that build a strong foundation for future STEM learning. Most importantly, these materials foster a sense of wonder and excitement about the world around them. My students feel like scientists as they explore, investigate, and discover new concepts independently and with peers. This donation has not only strengthened early math and science skills, but it has also nurtured confidence, curiosity, collaboration, and a lifelong love of learning that will support their success well beyond their Pre-K year.","fullyFundedDate":1764174292933,"projectUrl":"project/growing-great-minds-in-pre-k/9927408/","projectTitle":"Growing Great Minds in Pre-K!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Valles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9881725"},{"teacherId":9881725,"projectId":9869055,"letterContent":"The generous donation of the Find the Letter Activity Center, Lakeshore Alphabet Cones, and the Trace & Write Alphabet and Number Centers has had an immediate and meaningful impact on my Pre-K four-year-old students. At this age, children learn best through hands-on, interactive play, and these materials have transformed our literacy centers into highly engaging learning experiences. The Find the Letter Activity Center and Alphabet Cones have strengthened letter recognition, uppercase and lowercase matching, and beginning sound identification in developmentally appropriate ways. Instead of passively reviewing letters, students actively search, sort, match, and identify them, which builds stronger retention and deeper understanding. Many of my students entered Pre-K with limited exposure to print and letter knowledge, but with consistent access to these interactive tools, I have seen noticeable growth in their confidence and skills. Students who were once unsure during whole-group lessons now eagerly participate during center time, proudly identifying letters and helping classmates. The tactile and visual components support multiple learning styles, especially kinesthetic learners who thrive through movement and hands-on exploration. These materials also promote collaboration, communication, and turn-taking, helping students build important social-emotional skills alongside their early literacy foundation.\r\n\r\nThe Trace & Write Alphabet and Number Centers have significantly supported my students' fine motor development, number sense, and early writing skills. Developing proper pencil grip, control, and letter formation can be challenging for four-year-olds, but the structured tracing activities provide guided practice that builds both skill and confidence. Students are strengthening the small hand muscles necessary for writing while learning correct letter and number formation, setting them up for kindergarten readiness. The number activities reinforce counting, one-to-one correspondence, and number identification in a clear and supportive format. I have observed tremendous growth in students' ability to write their names, recognize numbers in their environment, and complete tasks independently. The centers allow for differentiation, enabling me to support students who need additional practice while challenging those who are ready to move forward. Most importantly, these Lakeshore materials have created a positive and joyful learning environment. My students feel successful, capable, and excited to practice their letters and numbers each day. This donation has not only provided high-quality educational resources, but it has also strengthened foundational academic skills, increased independence, and nurtured a love of learning that will benefit my students far beyond their Pre-K year.","fullyFundedDate":1764602125032,"projectUrl":"project/letters-words-and-wonder/9869055/","projectTitle":"Letters, Words and Wonder!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Valles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9881725"},{"teacherId":9881725,"projectId":9017493,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support! They felt like real writers, and it gave them a sense of independence and excitement.\r\n\r\nThe globe has opened up the world for my students.
