Students choose books from our classroom library, read with partners, practice tracking print, look closely at pictures, and respond by drawing or verbally retelling the story. In small groups, we focus on vocabulary, comprehension, and bilingual language development. These new books rotate through our read-alouds, centers, and independent book bins, and the children return to them again and again.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my bilingual students light up when they see the Spanish text—they proudly read aloud to their classmates and feel represented in the stories. One student in particular carries Brown Bear / Oso Pardo with him during centers and \"reads\" it to anyone who will listen. Another student who is usually shy has been eagerly volunteering to talk about her family after reading Where Are You From?. And our students LOVE pointing out the cultural connections in Round Is a Tortilla—it feels like home to them.\r\n\r\nThese books are more than just stories—they're building confidence, celebrating culture, strengthening early literacy, and bringing joy to our classroom every single day.
