My bilingual fourth grade students struggle tremendously when it comes to reading nonfiction. Most of my students prefer to read fictional books. I want to motivate and show them that nonfiction can also be exciting, by transforming my classroom with informational texts and materials related to the Jurassic period. The backdrops, projector, and vines will provide a visual representation of some creatures and environments from this period while they explore and read about it in the books. This activity will be aligned with science for what the scholars will research and learn about Paleontology, dinosaurs, and fossils by having the opportunity to dig dinosaur eggs and classify dinosaurs by their particular characteristics. I wish for my students to become lifelong readers and understand the value of reading a variety of genres. The donations from this project will help them learn about informational texts and their particular structure in a fun and motivational environment.
