One of our first activities was a tuning station rotation, where students checked long tones, chords, and balance using their own tuner. When they first saw the tuners, they were excited and many had never had consistent access to their own tuners before.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are applying this improved pitch awareness to our ensemble music as we prepare for performances. These tuners are already helping students build confidence, improve accuracy, and perform with greater pride. Many times the only materials that the students are exposed to is paint pencil and paper. Student made jewelry they incorporated leather and leather making sills in to other works and it was a huge success!! Many of my student told me how much they enjoyed creating with leather and that they planned on continuing the craft even after they graduated from high school.
