We have been using the cardstock for a variety of creative art projects where students practice cutting, gluing, and designing their own creations. The sturdy cardstock has allowed them to build more detailed crafts while strengthening their fine motor skills. I have also been able to enhance our dramatic play center by creating themed materials and laminating them so they last longer.\r\n\r\nDuring December, we transformed our dramatic play area into a \"Tree Lot,\" where students sold Christmas trees and practiced counting, role-playing, and social skills. In January, we created an \"Ice Cream Shop,\" and I was able to print and laminate menus, money, and order forms for repeated use. The students were so excited when they first saw the new materials—they immediately engaged in imaginative play and couldn't wait to take turns being the cashier or customer.\r\n\r\nIn our sensory area, students have been using the rainbow tongs to sort and transfer different items. They love the challenge, and it has been wonderful to see them strengthening their fine motor skills while practicing sorting and color recognition. At the molding center, students use Play-Doh daily to create shapes, letters, and imaginative designs, continuing to build the hand strength they need for writing.\r\n\r\nNext, we are excited to transform our dramatic play area into a \"Flower and Garden Shop.\" Students will create bouquets, \"sell\" plants, practice writing orders, count money, and learn about plants and how they grow. Thanks to the cardstock and laminating pouches, I will be able to create reusable signs, price tags, order forms, and garden tools that will last throughout the unit. We will also continue integrating these materials into our literacy and math centers by creating more laminated, reusable learning tools that support letter recognition, counting, sorting, and early writing skills.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly enriched our classroom and continues to make learning meaningful, engaging, and full of joy. The cardstock paper, Play-Doh, and sensory table materials have already made learning more engaging and hands-on for my pre-K students. One project that really showed their impact was our \"All About Me\" activity. Students created little books using the sturdy cardstock, decorated them with drawings and sensory textures, and used Play-Doh to make simple figures or letters that represented themselves. The sensory table added another layer of exploration, giving students calming, tactile ways to express their ideas.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement filled the room. They immediately ran to explore—some went straight for the Play-Doh, while others touched and sifted through the new sensory textures with huge smiles. Their reactions made it clear that these materials sparked curiosity and joy from the very beginning.\r\n\r\nOur next steps involve using these resources to support ongoing literacy and STEM lessons. Students will use the cardstock to make alphabet journals, practice writing their names, and illustrate simple stories. Play-Doh will help them form letters and numbers while strengthening fine-motor skills. The sensory table will rotate through new themed bins tied to our units on seasons, animals, and community helpers, helping students build early math and science skills through sorting, measuring, and exploring.\r\n\r\nThanks to our donors, my students now learn in a more creative, interactive, and joyful environment every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1764117935328,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-needs/9925791/","projectTitle":"Classroom Needs","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Saldivar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4798647_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1516972450619","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-saldivar08"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_9433","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":820,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":44,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":94.7,"schoolId":9433,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Brookwood Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Brookwood Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/clear-creek-independent-school-district/brookwood-elementary-school/9433"}
