Many of them are still developing social and communication skills, so having engaging, hands-on games gave them a meaningful and motivating way to practice interacting with one another. Smiles, laughter, and even spontaneous conversations began to fill our classroom as students explored the materials together.\r\n\r\nWe are using these games during structured social skills time as well as in small groups. For example, students take turns playing a simple board game where they must wait, follow rules, and respond to peers. During one activity, I saw a student who typically struggles with peer interaction independently ask a classmate, \"Your turn?\"—a huge milestone that we celebrated together. These moments are exactly what these resources were designed to support.\r\n\r\nThe games are also helping reinforce important Life Skills goals such as turn-taking, sharing, communication, and self-regulation. With guided support, students are learning how to handle winning and losing, express their needs, and engage appropriately with peers in a safe and structured way.","fullyFundedDate":1743007406089,"projectUrl":"project/best-buddies-building-friendships-throug/9167195/","projectTitle":"Best Buddies Building Friendships Through Games","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Harrison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6048171_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717533985369","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6048171"},{"teacherId":9991736,"projectId":9589567,"letterContent":"I am a school social worker serving as the school counselor. This is my 3rd year at this campus, and I absolutely love it. This year, I learned about Donors Choose and I decided to apply. I was super excited when my project was funded.\r\n\r\nI'm always looking for resources and materials to enhance student emotional and social development. One of the items in particular has proven to work very well with our kindergarten students. It addresses several different skills with one simple activity, and the students have love it. The item is called Social-Emotional Match-Ups: Making Good Choices. There are 20 \"match ups\" students can do. I distribute the pieces and challenge them to work together to find the match. As they do that, they are working on cooperation and communication. It also helps with persistence and problem-solving. Once the match-ups are completed we talk about the good choices in the cards, and we celebrate when they get them right. It's been so fun to watch them through this process.\r\n\r\nAll the resources received are greatly appreciated. We recently lost funding, so this has been so helpful. It gives me an opportunity to try new things with my students to help with their social emotional development.
