Living in an urban city such as Austin, TX has many advantages, but a major disadvantage is distances. You see, these distances also create isolation within our students, and if this was not enough, my students are part of a Title I school. As such, most of them will never get the opportunity to experience such a hands-on and integrative adventure. Camp Champions, The Outdoor School, provides them with team building and other activities that will gives them a chance to not only experience something new, but it will allows them to explore their strengths and build or strengthen their relationships with their peers. This in turn builds on their self-esteem and confidence, to be better socially and academically.
