My students have really enjoyed having the markers and construction paper to use for our history projects. Thank you so much for your contributions to this project.\r\n\r\nWe have used them for several projects so far. Students created illustrations for Theodore Roosevelt's Square Deal, worked with the ideas and goals of the Populist Party, and created cause-and-effect projects for the Spanish-American War. For the Spanish-American War project, some students chose to focus on the causes and effects of individual events during the war rather than the war as a whole. I really liked seeing them make those choices and find a way to show what they understood.\r\n\r\nThe students have been completely engaged in these projects. I have students who are not usually excited about completing assignments become very involved when they get to create something. They spend time deciding what information is important and how they can represent it with pictures and words. It has been a great way for them to show that they understand the history without just answering questions on a worksheet. Even the students who say they cannot draw are still engaged (all it took was for me to show them how my artwork looks to make them comfortable).\r\n\r\nThe construction paper and markers have made a big difference. My students do not like doing artwork on regular lined paper. It just doesn't have the same feel. When they have actual construction paper and good markers, they take much more pride in what they are doing. The projects look better, but more importantly, the students are more interested in doing them.\r\n\r\nI have also been surprised by how much they remember from the projects. They are not just coloring pictures. They are having to decide what represents the Square Deal, what the Populists wanted, or what caused an event and what happened as a result. They are thinking about the content while they are creating.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me bring this into my classroom. These supplies have given my students a different way to learn history, and it has been wonderful to see how excited and engaged they have been. These supplies have made my history projects much more meaningful for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1787948190340,"projectUrl":"project/explaining-us-history-through-art/10419227/","projectTitle":"Explaining US History through Art","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dean","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10565498"},{"teacherId":10522523,"projectId":10322499,"letterContent":"One of my favorite parts of teaching biology is finding ways to make learning more interactive and meaningful for my students. Thanks to your generosity, my students have access to materials that help make that possible!\r\n\r\nThe notebooks are used each and every day as our science journals. We record our experimental observations, take notes, make foldables, and do so much more. Having a dedicated place for their biology work allows students to look back at previous lessons and use their journal as a resource when preparing for quizzes, tests, and new topics. \r\n\r\nThe markers and paper have also helped us make our learning more visual and engaging. We use them to create diagrams, complete activities, and practice what we are learning. These materials give my students opportunities to have a hands-on experience when learning. \r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, these resources will be used daily. Your generosity has made an incredible difference in our classroom, and I am so thankful for each and every resource you provided. \r\n\r\nThe materials have already been put to great use! We have been doing hands-on lab experiments for various topics, so the gloves and the goggles have been very helpful. For instance, to demonstrate the effects of temperature on enzyme activity, we treated potatoes at three different temperatures with hydrogen peroxide to observe the enzymatic activity through oxygen bubbles. Having the proper equipment allowed my students to safely participate in this hands-on investigation and see the science we were learning about happen right in front of them.\r\n\r\nIn addition to our fun experiments, the paper trays have helped us stay organized and allowed our classroom to run more smoothly. The other supplies have also been incredibly helpful in keeping our classroom prepared and running efficiently each day.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, these resources will be used daily and in many more lab experiments. To make our notes more interactive, we incorporate a lot of foldables into our science journals. The colored paper, scissors, glue, colored pencils, and markers have allowed my students to be creative while creating resources they can use to review and reinforce what they are learning. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, the storage bins have helped us tremendously by giving our classroom supplies a designated place to stay. Having that organization means that students can spend less time searching for the materials and more time learning. The chalk markers have been amazing for my students as well! They have been a helpful way for us to draw out and visualize different processes, which helps students deepen their understanding of various biology topics. \r\n\r\nThank you once again for investing in my students and helping me create a classroom where they have the materials they need to learn, explore, and be successful. They were very excited to have the markers for our blackout poetry project. They enjoyed having these new markers to work with, rather than scrounging for the last bits of leftover supplies. The fact that we had new pencils was very appreciated, especially this late in the year.\r\n\r\nIn addition to having the needed academic supplies, the cleaning supplies are appreciated as well. We can now keep our classroom clean throughout the day instead of waiting for the custodial staff to come at the end of the day.\r\n\r\nNever underestimate how these basic supplies of fresh pencils, papers, markers, and cleaning supplies can encourage learning. This table will provide a safe and convenient space for students to receive the small group instruction they need. I cannot wait to integrate this table into my classroom next year. I know they will be so excited to have a more engaging experience with their peers. \r\nA plan that I have for this table is to use it for small groups on review days before module tests. Students can work independently on their review assignment and I can call small groups up to discuss the topics they are most concerned about for their test. I want to have students record the topic they are most concerned about on a piece of paper and turn it in the day before the review. This will give me time to group students based on similar struggles and create a small group environment that will leave them feeling more confident.
