The students absolutely love reading in the reading corner and it's all because of you. Having a text-rich classroom promotes reading, and now with a reading corner students are encouraged to explore reading more. \r\n\r\nAs artists, students learn how to \"read\" a work of art during art criticism and critique. They get the opportunity to visit the reading corner to explore other artists, genres and themes that they are learned about in class. \r\n\r\nThe reading corner is bright and inviting, as well as comfortable and cozy. I have included a magazine stand that was donated by a local library to give the sense of a lounge. Students often pair up into groups of two and three and share their love for reading with each other. The makerspace is such an exciting addition to the art room. Many students are familiar with STEM and have enjoyed using the MakerSpace when they are done with assignments. I can recall when introducing the MakerSpace to first grade and how excited they were to use the building sticks because it challenged them to use a material they hadn't used before. They love the colorful storage container that houses all of the materials. My goal is to challenge the students to complete a weekly task card that explores the possibilities of STEM in the art room. When the students first saw the new prizes, their eyes lit up with excitement—they pointed out their favorites, talked about the goals they wanted to reach, and filled the room with energy. One especially memorable moment was when a student who had been struggling with focus finally met his weekly goal and proudly chose a toy, and his classmates celebrated with him. These new resources are helping students stay motivated, build positive habits, and work toward personal academic and behavior goals.
