I do know that all the items were delivered and are being enjoyed. The class is taking their time building the beautiful Lego sets and puzzles. They are very protective of them and don't allow anyone to get near them once they are built. This was my second project to be funded through Donors Chose and I am beyond appreciative of the generosity shown to my class. Our kids are smart and funny, kind and careing, but most of all our kids are the ones who fall through the cracks. I teach at the Dawn Program, a school in Chattanooga Tennessee for special needs students who have emotional disturbance as one of their diagnosis. Because of the behaviors we see, mostly trauma based, SEL is an important part of my classroom. \r\nI spend my days helping these children learn how to handle their emotions in an appropriate way, I am able to use the many wonderful things provided by Donors Choose to help with these lessons. I was provided with workbooks full of lessons on some of the most basic social emotional life skills, but these are skills that do not come easy to them. I was blessed with some weighted animals that my friends love to hold and snuggle when they are struggling with a big feeling. I have new fidgets and toys that I can use to help engage their minds in the lesson while their body is playing with the fidget. I recieved an emotion wheel that helps us find words for the emotions, we are able to tease out anger to hurt to jealous, building emotional conections between their feelings. I have recieved so many amazing resources that I use every single day and I can't thank you, the donors enough!
