The garden club students were very excited to receive the supplies and immediately began to plan how they would be used.\r\n\r\nThe students are using the black totes to keep their gardening gloves, hats, trowels, hand rakes, and garden journals separated from everyone else's. We have over 25 garden club members, so keeping the supplies separated is important. The totes are very sturdy, and we will get a long term of use from them.\r\n\r\nThe students are using the seed boxes to store the heritage seeds we are saving from all our garden plantings. Our Heritage Seed Library will enable students to learn about preserving heritage seed varieties that are open-pollinated, have adapted to our west Tennessee area, and have become endangered due to the lack of seed savers in our location.\r\n\r\nThe two garden wagons are invaluable for the planting and maintenance of our 6 brick beds. These beds are large, and the wagons help move soil between each bed without straining and heavy lifting.\r\n\r\nWe have cleaned out the beds for winter and plan to gather seeds for spring planting during the winter months and create a plan for each bed's design. There will be a heritage apple tree bed, a pollinator bed with a steppingstone path created by the students, an herb garden, a memorial bed with passionflower vines and a star, a shade bed, and a perennial flower garden. There is also a large USA map that the students are refurbishing, hopscotch, and tic-tac-toe to be painted on the concrete between the beds.","fullyFundedDate":1757520083672,"projectUrl":"project/growing-with-a-purpose-youth-gardening-p/9474031/","projectTitle":"Growing with a Purpose Youth Gardening Program","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ginger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9969797_orig.jpg?crop=1118,1118,x0,y383&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742054627779","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9969797"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_92521","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":701,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":58,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":45,"percentWhite":36,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":74.2,"schoolId":92521,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Oakland Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Oakland Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/fayette-county-school-district/oakland-elementary-school/92521"}
