After working hard at their kitchen or sewing stations, students can take a purposeful pause, resetting their minds and connecting with peers. Recently, during a cooking lab transition, a group finished early and gathered around a strategy game. I watched them laugh, make decisions together, and encourage one another. What could have been downtime became a moment of positive social interaction and stress relief because of the resources you provided.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new games, their faces lit up. They immediately started planning which ones they wanted to try first and talked excitedly about how fun reward days were going to be. Several even said, this makes class feel like home. Having something tangible and fun to look forward to has noticeably boosted motivation and classroom morale. Students are more focused during lessons because they know they will earn time to unwind in a structured and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nAs we continue in our current projects, these games will support teamwork, communication, and overall well being. We will use them during group rotations and during celebration days when students meet important milestones in cooking or sewing. Your donation did more than bring games into the room. You brought joy, connection, and balance to our day. They immediately started brainstorming all the delicious recipes they wanted to try. The shiny new equipment made our classroom kitchen feel fresh and exciting, and students could not wait to roll up their sleeves and get cooking.\r\n\r\nWe have already put the pans to great use during our Young Chefs project. Students worked together to make sheet pan meals, quesadillas, and pancakes while learning to manage heat, portion ingredients, and cook safely. The cookie sheets have been perfect for baking cookies, muffins, and pizza bagels, and students love experimenting with different recipes. Having the right tools has made every project smoother, safer, and so much more fun.\r\n\r\nIn the future, these pans and cookie sheets will be used for countless lessons, from our holiday baking unit to meal prep and breakfast labs. They will also support upcoming projects on nutrition, budgeting, and teamwork. Your donation will continue to make an impact for years to come, helping hundreds of students learn valuable life skills in our Family and Consumer Science classroom. Thank you for believing in our young chefs and giving them the tools to succeed.\r\n\r\nOne student said, \"These pans make our class feel like a real kitchen! Many of them crowded around right away, asking questions and excitedly planning what we could wash first. We've already put it to use in real-world lessons—students have been practicing laundry care, learning how to properly sort clothes, measure detergent, and understand fabric care labels. One memorable moment was when a group of students worked together to wash the aprons we use during cooking labs; they were so proud to see the results of their teamwork.\r\n\r\nThese resources are more than just machines—they've created opportunities for my students to gain independent living skills they'll carry into adulthood. The laundry center has also made it possible for us to keep our classroom supplies fresh and ready to use, which helps us learn more effectively.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be expanding our unit on household management by introducing lessons on stain removal, clothing repair, and even budgeting for laundry costs. Your generosity made this upgrade possible, and my students are learning skills they'll truly use for life.","fullyFundedDate":1758824208560,"projectUrl":"project/small-space-big-skills-laundry-center/9467965/","projectTitle":"Small Space, Big Skills: Laundry Center Upgrade","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. E","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2875615_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745928495568","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/gettys-fcs"},{"teacherId":2875615,"projectId":9274621,"letterContent":"When our new ovens arrived, the energy in my classroom was incredible. Students crowded around as we unpacked them, excitedly talking over one another about everything they wanted to bake, roast, and create. One student whispered, \"Now we can really cook like the shows on TV,\" while another was already sketching out a recipe idea. The moment we turned them on for the first time, there was a chorus of \"oohs\" and \"ahhs\" — they were so ready to get started.\r\n\r\nSince then, the ovens have transformed our Family and Consumer Science kitchen. Recently, my 7th graders completed a \"Bake-Off Challenge,\" where each group designed and baked their own unique bread recipe from scratch. Students practiced precise measuring, kneading, proofing, and temperature control — all while working together as a team. Because we now have enough ovens to work simultaneously, every group could bake at the same time, which made the experience more exciting and collaborative. Their pride in pulling out golden loaves and sharing them with classmates was unmatched.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students can now take on more ambitious, real-world cooking projects. Our next goal is a \"Cultural Foods Showcase,\" where students will research, prepare, and present dishes from around the world. These ovens make it possible for them to experiment, problem-solve, and experience the joy of cooking together. Your gift has sparked creativity, confidence, and countless learning moments — and we are so grateful for the difference you've made.","fullyFundedDate":1746644719744,"projectUrl":"project/baking-bottles-and-big-life-lessons/9274621/","projectTitle":"Baking, Bottles, and Big Life Lessons","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. E","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2875615_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745928495568","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/gettys-fcs"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6580","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1217,"numTeachers":76,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":62,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.2,"schoolId":6580,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about R.H.
