Your generosity means the world to my students and me! With your help, we are now able to use hands-on phonics games, comprehension practice cards, magnetic story boards, book bins, and an organized literacy center routine to enrich our daily literacy block. These materials have transformed our classroom into a place where students choose to read, practice skills independently, and genuinely enjoy the process of learning to read — something that wasn't always easy for some of them.\r\n\r\nThe first time my students saw the new literacy centers, their eyes lit up with excitement. One student immediately gravitated toward the magnetic story board and began building sentences with a friend, proudly sharing their creations. Another group dove into the phonics games, laughing and encouraging each other as they practiced decoding in ways that feel like play rather than work. Moments like these show me every day that these resources are helping them grow in confidence and skill, especially during small group time where I can target instruction based on individual needs.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, we've taken our current reading units to a whole new level. Next, we're using our literacy centers to support a unit on comprehension strategies — students will rotate through stations that require making inferences, identifying the main idea, and using evidence from texts to support their thinking. These skills are challenges for many, yet your support has given them the tools and motivation to meet those challenges with courage and curiosity. We are forever grateful for your belief in our classroom and your investment in our students' futures.","fullyFundedDate":1757968176724,"projectUrl":"project/level-up-literacy-centers-that-build-co/9467053/","projectTitle":"Level Up Literacy: Centers That Build Confidence and Skill","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dobson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8348038_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704771003791","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8348038"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6308","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":144,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":89,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"3 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":58.6,"schoolId":6308,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mellichamp Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mellichamp Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/orangeburg-county-school-district/mellichamp-elementary-school/6308"}
