Because tap lessons require a specific type of shoe, it can be difficult for our families to always afford this additional expense. With these bins, we can ensure that several items including expensive costume pieces have a secure place to stay throughout the year until they are needed during concert season. Your donations helped us purchase quality leggings that the students felt good about and looked good in, making even a dress rehearsal in class feel more professional. This higher quality material also means that the leggings will last longer over the years, allowing many more students to be professionals on and off the dance stage. We recently used them during a tone-color exploration project where students experimented with different timbres and textures across sections. Instead of just playing notes on a page, students analyzed how changing articulation, air support, and instrument combinations affected the overall ensemble sound. One specific moment that stood out was when our low brass section adjusted their vowel shape and immediately heard the warmth and depth of their sound transform—there was an instant \"aha!\" across the room.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reaction was excitement mixed with curiosity. They immediately wanted to try everything. Several students even stayed after class just to explore the resources more. For many of them, it felt like they were being trusted with professional-level tools, and that ownership raised their level of focus and pride.\r\n\r\nNext, we are building on this momentum as we prepare for upcoming performances. Students are applying what they've learned about tone production and ensemble balance directly into our concert repertoire. They are also beginning small-group sectionals where they will self-assess using the new resources and set specific musical goals. Because of your generosity, our students aren't just playing music—they're thinking critically, listening intentionally, and growing as musicians and collaborators. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity you've given them to elevate their learning experience.","fullyFundedDate":1765299284918,"projectUrl":"project/tone-tools-and-tune-up-essentials/9938031/","projectTitle":"Tone Tools and Tune-Up Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Ketter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1642363_orig.jpg?crop=560,560,x47,y19&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693523617893","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/marlin-ketter"},{"teacherId":2288517,"projectId":9434906,"letterContent":"Thank you for providing these fun materials for our dance classroom. These games are a fun way to continue to do that with some friendly competition added in. My students also often love to play dance games like JustDance or others through video game consoles. This dance game based off of popular arcade dance games are newer to most of my young students and will be a new challenge for them. Before this project, many of our headphones were worn out — some only worked in one ear while others didn't work at all. Students often grew frustrated because they couldn't fully hear what they were playing. Now, with reliable headphones for every piano, each student can clearly hear their music, stay focused, and enjoy the process of learning.\r\n\r\nThe students are most excited about finally being able to listen without interruptions or technical problems. They've noticed right away how much easier it is to practice and to recognize when their notes and rhythms are correct. Having consistent sound in both ears makes them feel like they are really making music, and their excitement shows in how much more confident they are while playing.\r\n\r\nSome of my quieter students have especially warmed to the new headphones. One student who used to avoid practicing now eagerly puts on her headphones and plays through her assignments because she can finally hear everything clearly. Another student, who often got discouraged by the broken equipment, now stays on task and takes pride in his progress.\r\n\r\nYour gift has given my students the tools they need to focus, grow, and truly hear their music. One of our first projects was exploring different tones and timbres by creating rhythm patterns using both traditional percussion instruments and some of the new classroom materials. A few students even discovered that everyday items could sound just as musical, which sparked a lot of creativity and laughter.\r\n\r\nThe first time they saw the new resources, many of them rushed over to test out the instruments, almost like it was a \"musical playground.\" The look of surprise on their faces when they heard the unique sounds was unforgettable. It was one of those moments where you could see curiosity turning into genuine enthusiasm for learning.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be building on this excitement by arranging short ensemble pieces where students combine these new timbres with different genres of music. This will allow them to apply what they've learned about rhythm, teamwork, and creativity, while also preparing for our upcoming performance.","fullyFundedDate":1746467912350,"projectUrl":"project/simple-satisfying-supplies/9054886/","projectTitle":"Simple Satisfying Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Ketter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1642363_orig.jpg?crop=560,560,x47,y19&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693523617893","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/marlin-ketter"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7831","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":861,"numTeachers":63,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":35,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":9,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.9,"schoolId":7831,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Oakbrook Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Oakbrook Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/dorchester-school-district-two/oakbrook-middle-school/7831"}
