What might seem like a simple piece of equipment has made a huge impact on our school community. Each Friday morning, as students arrive, upbeat and encouraging music fills the hallway. The energy is contagious! Students walk in smiling, staff members join in the excitement, and our high fives feel even more meaningful as the music sets the tone for the day.\r\n\r\nThe speaker has helped us create an atmosphere of celebration, connection, and belonging. It's amazing to see how something as simple as music can boost morale, increase engagement, and start the day on a positive note. Students who may come in feeling tired or uncertain are greeted with enthusiasm and encouragement, and it makes a difference.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, Positive High Five Fridays are louder, prouder, and more impactful than ever. Since receiving them, they have been a staple in our classroom, immediately removing the anxiety associated with using potentially messy materials. Currently, my 6th graders are engaged in a fascinating sculpture project where they are wetting toilet paper and molding it—a wonderfully messy process—which, upon drying, creates a hard, inexpensive, and durable form. The final step involves painting these creations with acrylic paint to achieve a realistic look. The aprons allow them to fully immerse themselves in both the wet molding and the acrylic painting phases without the distraction of worrying about ruining their clothes. When they first saw the new aprons, the students reacted with excitement and a sense of being \"real artists,\" which has led to greater focus and engagement in their work.\r\n\r\nThe aprons have proven invaluable for our extracurricular activities as well. My Art Club has been utilizing them after school for the past several weeks for a service project where we are sanding and painting the school's outdoor picnic tables. This project would have been impossible without the protective gear. The aprons allow these students to safely and freely engage in these messy activities. We are now finishing up the sculpture unit and will soon move on to clay, ensuring that the aprons will continue to be put to great use as we explore other exciting, hands-on artistic processes.","fullyFundedDate":1758636839499,"projectUrl":"project/aprons-for-artists-protecting-creativit/9550600/","projectTitle":"Aprons for Artists: Protecting Creativity in the Art Room","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Baumer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9970734_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742231393763","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9970734"},{"teacherId":9523374,"projectId":9801670,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom through this DonorsChoose project. That says a lot about you, our donors and your generosity. A few items were back ordered, so we just received the last few items recently. When the bulk of the items arrived we immediately put them to use. We built a classroom stage using the new drill, bits, and screws and every student I teach learned how to properly use a drill, select bits, use them, and contributed in building our stage. They were so proud and excited and thy also learned a valuable life skill using basic tools they will also use in their futures. \r\nWe also painted the stage using the paint rollers, roller covers, painters tape, brushes, and other supplies. \r\nThese supplies gave students ownership of the project and the tools to build not only the stage but their pride and self-esteem in creating it. \r\nWe appreciate your kindness and generosity so much.
