The benefits of the club were far greater than we could have imagined. Twelve students were positively impacted between two groups so far and many more students will benefit this coming school year. \r\n\r\nWhen we formed the Wild Hearts Club, we targeted self esteem for girls. By the end of the group, our students not only were able to define and implement daily positive activities to continue building their self esteem but they also developed deep, healthy friendships with the other girls in the group. One girl exclaimed, \"After groups end, we should all meet weekly at the basketball hoop during recess so we can have a space to talk privately and stay close to each other\". Another girl asked if she could mentor students next year in the group and tell them about what she has learned since finishing the group. \r\n\r\nThe materials provided in the group were partly what kept the girls coming back. They loved making affirmation bracelets, sporting their shirts each week, and writing/designing in their journals with their glitter pens and stickers. Students are more motivated to participate in activities and are better able to sustain attention during instruction when using these materials.\r\n\r\nThe project has also supported the development of fine motor, communication, and functional academic skills through structured, multisensory activities. These materials have been especially beneficial for students who require visual and tactile supports to understand concepts and complete tasks. This project helped me to add a Toniebox to the Reading Center in my 4K classroom. After introducing it the my students, they were very excited to try it on their own. We have two Tonies that tell the students different stories, and we have one Tonie that sings different children's songs. There is also a Tonie where I can record myself reading a story to them. Students choose which Tonie they want listen to when they are in the Reading Center. A lot of the time, they chose the one that sings songs. They will listen to the songs as they look at the different books in our Reading Center. Or they will sing along with the Tonie, which we all enjoy listening to. Having the Toniebox has made the Reading Center a much more desirable center and my students want to go to that center more than they did before we had the Toniebox. It is really fun to see the students enjoying looking at books and listening to the stories being read to them, as well as, hearing them sing along to familiar songs.
