Despite the challenges many face outside the classroom, they arrive each day eager to learn and grow. They bring resilience, creativity, and unique voices—along with curiosity and thoughtfulness that inspire me daily. They are ready to explore their emotions and experiences, and they deserve the tools and space to do so authentically.\r\n\r\nWith your help, I have been able to create that safe, supportive space, and the impact has been remarkable. Just recently, I watched my students engage in a powerful lesson that connected the novel's mood and theme to their real-world experiences. They conducted personal analyses, drawing connections between the characters' emotional journeys and their own lives. What made this moment truly special was what happened next: students picked up the stress ball you provided, released their tension, and then created art depicting something positive in their lives. Their drawings became visual celebrations of hope, support, and resilience.\r\n\r\nPerhaps most moving was seeing the entire class gather at the board to support one student as they worked through a challenging thesis-driven writing introduction. They lifted each other up, offered ideas, and worked together—a perfect example of how your resources foster not just individual reflection but also community, collaboration, and genuine care.\r\n\r\nThe SEL journals provide each student a personal sanctuary to express their thoughts, develop self-awareness, and practice reflective writing daily. The dry-erase boards spark meaningful reflection through flexible prompts. The tennis balls create a calm environment where vulnerability feels safe. The ELA posters serve as daily visual reminders of their potential. And the anger management ball—as you can see—has become a catalyst for releasing tension, creating art, and returning to their work with clarity and hope.\r\n\r\nThese resources honor what my students already possess: resilience, creativity, and the courage to grow. They are learning to understand their emotions more deeply, to support one another, and to develop into confident communicators and reflective thinkers, both in the classroom and in their lives.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of social-emotional learning and for investing in young people who deserve to be heard, supported, celebrated, and given the tools to thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1760446591541,"projectUrl":"project/penning-positivity-helping-students-nav/9417475/","projectTitle":"Penning Positivity: Helping Students Navigate Emotions Through Writing","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mungin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9342807_orig.jpg?crop=3202,3202,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754587579889","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9342807"},{"teacherId":9342807,"projectId":8631493,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding my, \"Out of the Box ELA Experience for High Schoolers,\" project! Your generosity has brought incredible new books and materials into our classroom, truly transforming how our students engage with literature.\r\n\r\nIn our class, reading goes far beyond just words on a page. Through one-pagers, acting out plays, and creating drawings, paintings, and sculptures, our students dive deep into analyzing and interpreting symbols and themes in the texts. This hands-on approach helps them develop critical thinking, creativity, and a richer understanding of the stories they read.\r\n\r\nThe books were much needed because I am the only teacher at my school who teaches the ELA End of Course state test. \"Macbeth, Long Way Down, and Ghost,\" are truly books that peak my high schooler's love reading because they are relatable and allow them to make personal connections, show empathy and make real world connections. I even have parents reading along and they love my book choices and are hooked and they make sure my projects get done. This is a win-win on all levels. Yayyyy!!!\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, students who previously found reading challenging are now excited to explore texts in ways that fit their unique strengths. For example, some students who love visual expression thrive by illustrating their interpretations, while others shine in dramatizing scenes for the class.\r\n\r\nYour gift has not only expanded our library but also opened new pathways for students to connect with literature—making reading vibrant, meaningful, and joyful for everyone.","fullyFundedDate":1735532606977,"projectUrl":"project/out-of-the-box-ela-experience-for-high-s/8631493/","projectTitle":"Out of the Box Ela Experience for High Schoolers-COOL.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mungin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9342807_orig.jpg?crop=3202,3202,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754587579889","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9342807"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6471","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":309,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":27,"percentWhite":53,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":47.6,"schoolId":6471,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mayo High School for Math Science & Technology on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mayo High School for Math Science & Technology","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/darlington-county-school-district/mayo-high-school-for-math-science-tech/6471"}
