Students work collaboratively in groups of four to five and complete the project in several phases, beginning with initial concept sketches in their sketchbooks. Each group wis responsible for designing and constructing both a headpiece and a body piece, which must be able to fit on either the male or female classroom mannequin.\r\n\r\nI organize students into six groups per class, in each of my three classes. In addition to the creative work, each group presents their completed costume to the class, accompanied by a detailed storyline or background for their character and design. This project is an opportunity for students to demonstrate the full range of skills they've developed throughout the semester, including drawing, painting, color theory, and teamwork. It's also a highly engaging assignment - many students report that this is one of their favorite projects, and they consistently produce imaginative and impressive pieces.\r\n\r\nStudents are encouraged to use a wide variety of unconventional and repurposed materials such as pipe cleaners, cotton balls, popsicle sticks, egg cartons, plastic water bottles, tissue paper, plastic silverware, and various types of cardboard. While hot glue is the primary adhesive due to its quick-drying properties, students often find other creative construction solutions, incorporating wire, pipe cleaners, and other materials to assemble their designs. A key component of the assignment is that materials must be used in unexpected ways; for example, fabric can be used, but not in its traditional function, such as making a shirt.\r\n\r\nWe sincerely appreciate your support in helping us gather the necessary supplies that make this project possible and successful. Some students have taken a few minutes to compose thank you letters and I have taken pictures of some of the final products. Your contributions truly make a difference.","fullyFundedDate":1738528355221,"projectUrl":"project/repurposed-art-costume-design/9039836/","projectTitle":"Repurposed Art Costume Design","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. King","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9889589_orig.jpg?crop=409,409,x38,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736535589590","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9889589"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6494","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1104,"numTeachers":84,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":40,"percentWhite":40,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":6494,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Beaufort High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Beaufort High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/beaufort-county-school-district/beaufort-high-school/6494"}
